Gear shifter connector rod.

Trying to get more adjustment out of the gear shift lever connector rod. Can't raise the lever enough to get my boot under it. Any body ever cut the connector rod if so how much and to what effect please?

I cut 6mm of each end of the adjusting threaded rod, that gave me the the room for my limited movement left foot.
