If you ever need to re key a BMW lock to match your existing key this link is a great resource. http://www.pbase.com/rodneff/keying_bmw_locks
I have just re keyed the lock on my old top case to fit the ignition key of my new GS. The whole operation took about 15 minutes and no new materials were required. The lock now works perfectly with the new key. It was quite easy!

Jono and Geolero,

This link no longer works - do you have the info saved in any way?

Does this mean I could sell my panniers and top box (newish, R1200R) and the buyer could re key without too much fuss?

Cheers,

Jeff

Here is a link for the Vario cases if you google "Re-Key bmw locks" you will find a heap of threads on how to do it, its not hard, probably takes 30 minutes.

Yes you should be able to sell your top boxes and the buyer can re key - However it is necessary to have original key to make the job easy. So ideally the new buyer would need to borrow your spare key for the process of re keying the locks. It is required to extract the lock barrel from the chamber.

Good Luck

Thanks, Jono,

That's the difficulty though, I've traded the bike.. maybe the purchaser may want to buy them..!
