Checking out the bakeries in Victoria
Over the past ten days I have ridden just under 6,000 kilometres
Most of that was getting to Melbourne from Perth but included some side trips to great motorcycle roads
On the way through SA I deviated to do the Birdseye Highway, Venus Bay and Streaky Bay as well as Horrocks Pass, Clare-Kapunda-Greenock-Angaston-Mount Pleasant-Gumeracha-Lobethal -Norton Summit - Magill.
The road through Norton Summit was unbelievable with the number of tight twisties and the changes in elevation.
Traveling to Victoria I took the back road from Bordertown to Naracoorte and then the Great Ocean Road.
The most difficult riding was hitting Melbourne at peak hour after having ridden for 700 km and through 3,000 bends.
The next day I rode through the very narrow and scenic roads of Kinglake and the back road to Healesville. Mostly magic apart from a 4wd on my side of the road and no shoulder and a log tuck that dropped a rear wheel off the bitumen that had it coming straight at me.
The second day I opted for the fast sweeping bends of Lang Lang to Leongatha with deviations to scenic roads such as the Loch - Kernot Road.
My third day of Victorian riding was a trip the the Pentland Hills, Trentham, Woodend, Hanging Rock and Mount Macedon
On the Monday I had a new rear tyre fitted as the Heidenau was down to the wear markers after 18,000 Kms. Pablos at Mulgrave fitted one for $275.
Melbourne cup day I headed out to the east taking in the forested twisties of the Moe to Rawson Road before a similar run to Tyers. Next was the Great Alpine Road to Omeo with a leg to Tallandoon along the Mitta River. A shortcut through Lockhart Gap before a run through the Kiewa Valley to Dederang and another gap road to Myrtleford ending up for the night in Beechworth.
Today I zig zagged my way back to Melbourne through Wangaratta, Whitfield, Mansfield, Merton, Euroa, Creightons Creek, Terip Terip, Highlands, Seymour, Yea, Flowerdale and Whittlesea.
Tomorrow is Mount Baw Baw and fly home Friday.
Brilliant riding...it is the first time I have come across a 10 kph advisory sign.
Brian 5 said that riding in Victoria makes WA and SA look pretty ordinary.
I have to agree. It is amazing there are so many high quality low traffic roads with brilliant scenery and bend after bend after bend.
Can not wait to get back to do the Grampians and east of Bairnsdale.

The title of the thread is "Checking out Bakeries"
Very few bakeries and IGAs on dirt roads
I can personally recommend the Yea Providore and the Mansfield Bakery.

Ross
The 1200 GS
It ran like a dream with no dramas in over 6,000 km of riding.
It was a spontaneous decision to travel when I saw the weather forecast.
The 1200 RT was originally going to go but it would have had to have a new tyre before I left and a service.
The 1200 GS is now parked up in suburban Melbourne as I hope to return in the next few weeks to continue exploring Victoria and NSW.

Re: Checking out the bakeries in Victoria
Had another two excellent pies in Victoria today...one from the Gladysdale Bakehouse and one from the Marysville Bakery.
Rode two of the best rides near to Melbourne today ... the Black Spur and the Reefton Spur.
Even the ride from Belgrave to Monbulk via Emerald was great.
Hope the 40th ride goes well.

Re: Checking out the bakeries in Victoria
Back in Melbourne after a brilliant few days of glorious weather riding to Eden in NSW.
Key rides were the
Mt Imlay Road...absolutely stunning...not another vehicle in the whole 58 kms. Apart from slowing down to avoid wallabies and kangaroos the whole ride could have been done in 5th gear. Spotted a lyre bird..the first time I have seen one in the wild.
Bombala - Orbost...some parts unsealed and challenging...magic scenery...again wallabies outnumbered vehicles.
Sale to Leongatha with a deviation to the Grand Ridge Road and a coffee at the Inline 4 Motorcycle Café....we need one like this in regional WA. The Grand Ridge Road is in some parts just an unsealed logging track but with stunning views.
Bike performed flawlessly as it has now for over 8,000 km of riding.
Looking forward to hear how the anniversary celebrations went.
