A well attended Catalano's breakfast was followed by an excursion to the greening fields of the Wheatbelt.
Kim and Andrea, Andrew, Drew, German Paul, Bill, Brian/5 and Bozo took on the challenge of roadworks and cyclists to take advantage of the brilliant riding weather.
Brigadoon, O'Brian Road, Berry Road and Toodyay Road were ridden without incident. On the Goomalling - Toodyay Road a four wheel drive took over leading the ride by slowing down when the road was marked with double white lines then speeding up to 120kph when there were passing opportunities. Roadworks, gravel, bridgeworks and traffic lights took some enjoyment away from the flowing corners of the road.
At Goomalling we were in luck with the Café open (it has been open every second Sunday from April) and we heard about Andrew's 30,000 km trip around Australia, near misses with wildlife and tyre life. There was also a discussion about bikes running and then not running.
85% of the riders turned onto the Meckering Road. 15% flew past the turnoff. With one rider missing the group retraced its steps to Goomalling with no sign of the lost soul. Assuming that he had missed the turn we changed plans and headed for Northam. We were greeted with the sweet aroma of a triple decker stock truck as we headed in to York to find not one but two riders waiting for the group, including Wes who had been in civvies at breakfast. A brief stop at the Café and we headed out on a short deviation, rejoining the York Road via Cut Hill Road.
Coming into Mundaring we passed a motorcyclist with an inoperable bike. It was Wes who thought it could be a BMW Club Member so a part of the group turned around to see if they could help. It was indeed one of our colleagues who had been abandoned by his riding companions. The BMW had been intermittently cutting out and finally refused to run. The RAC was seconds away from being called when it was noticed that a brown wire to the fuel pump was loose and the bike roared to life.
Another enjoyable ride with great banter. Glad we found our lost rider and were able to help another. Roll on next Sunday.
