Baby Blue versus 4 Emus

Post by Swampy »

Approaching Dwellingup from the East on the Boddington Road this morning at 1148. Come accross an Overtaking lane which was covered in deep shadow from the surrounding bush.

Pajero in the left lane travelling around 15 kph. I overtook Pajero at 110kph wondering WTF Pajero was travelling so slow?

Next instant I realised why, 4 bloody great Emu's were running in my lane in the same direction as me approx. 5 metres away from a collision.

Instantly pictured myself and Baby Blue sliding down the road in a tangle of arms legs legs and feathers a bits of Baby Blue's remains and unable to react apart from aiming for the centre of them before I burst through with 2 birds running left and 2 birds running right and me in the middle....Like a star burst.

I swear that I felt I was in a car wash with Emu feathers brushing Baby Blue's flanks on both sides as they parted left and right.

Result, Baby Blue brushed clean.............Female Emu's laid a few eggs..................Me, I will leave that to your imagination??

Continued on into Pinjarra for a strong coffee and a pie.

PS. Finally arrive home go to turn right into my street, 2 young girls in a car stop on my right, Look me in the eye and then drive out in front of me.

Nearly fell off my bike avoiding them, Say a few choice words.................Result. Young girl waves to me and smiles then drives off as if nothing happened

No Lotto tickets for me this week, Used all my luck up.

A very relieved Swampy

Glad you're ok
Sometimes we learn lessons the hard way, next time you will pass said Pajero more cautiously. It isn't often WA drivers slow down for no reason
But for now you can feel very relieved and dine out on the story for a good while! well at least at Cat's or the local Pie shop!

Swampy

We were talking about emus on the Sunday ride.

You can not ride the Flinders Ranges without running in to big mobs of them...up to thirty at a time.

Glad you survived both bird incidents.

My most recent near miss was with a truck driver illegally parked near a traffic calming island opening his door and jumping out in front of me. I had just had a new front tyre fitted with only 2 kilometres of wear...I was expected the bike to do a "cookie" as I swerved and braked.

I've never been known to garnish the truth for the sake of a good story Paddy and still very thankful I survived the incident to tell the story

My initial thought Jono was that it was an old cocky driving the Pajero and as you know they never travel fast for anything
