Just out of the back blocks of Welshpool, Koos' grey mare wilted like a piece of lettuce in a microwave oven. Wes and I hung back to see if there was any life to be coaxed out of the stubborn mule.......eventually the two-wires-to-the fuel-pump jiggle trick worked and Koos stuttered off home.
Coming into Ginger's the main mob was champing at the leash to pop off, so while I refuelled and stood in a line of country bumpkins doing their monthly shop and forgetting their PIN....... came out and Dinga Bell was waiting for me. We set off like the wind down Great Northern, following an Elvis Presley pink Cadillac look-alike for about 10 kms and coming up to the bakehouse as the main group turned the corner, out to New Norcia.
With great Gusto, we sped of north, turning left at the first big turnoff and then carrying through to Moora, via Mogumber, realising (too late) that the main bunch had probably turned off to pay homage to Gin Gin (Last Friday WAS international Gin day, they say) before Moora.
So we went counter current to the main group but it was a good ride, with some very beautiful cloud formations to be seen coming over the scarp at Dandaragan. We pulled into Regans Ford for a Snail bun and a tepid cup of coffee. I asked the check-out chick at the counter "Did you see a bunch of Beemer Riders. come in a bit earlier?".....She said "Mate! It's like Phillip Island out there, blokes with helmets on, have been coming in to pay for fuel, every 5 minutes, all day"
The ride back into town was good, with just a quick stop in Gin Gin to pay homage to gin (and the mystery 8 riders) just in time to pick up the big diversion on Roe Highway.
