Re: ANZAC ride to Hopetoun & Esperance
Hello fellow adventurers
Shaping up to be a great ride, ~14 starters, good weather to get us out of the city, half decent Sunday and the promise of drizzle on the way home, what more could you ask for on a 3 day ride?
Bike is loaded ready to leave home around 7am, meet at servo on the corner of Canning road and Brookton Highway at 8am, top up the tank ready for 8.15 departure.

Too droll for this time of the morning.
Some people are like Slinkys, you can't help smiling when you push them downstairs.

Re: ANZAC ride to Hopetoun & Esperance
Congrats to Cookie and Brian for putting the ride together, and keeping it together
The hospitality extended to us via the Cooke network was heart-warming and absolutely beyond all expectations, even with the absence of our intrepid ride leader... thank you, thank you
Another BMWMCCWA adventure under our belts... it did include just one flat tyre and a very informative puncture repair training session offered congenially by Jamie and Chris... and of course there was that obligatory bent handle bar And there was that brave rider, Maree, who rode said bike and bent handle bar through rutted gravelly roads to civilisation
However, the bravest participant of the weekend would have to be Trish, for her unending trust in Bill's riding skills.
Superb twisty bitumen roads over absolutely stunning Great Southern Ocean views, combined with rugged dirt roads through our West Australian outback, Great Southern Woodlands and Fitzgerald National Park, and there was about 100 km standing up on the pegs from Hopetoun to Esperance, where else would you be ????
Arrived home safely around 5.30 pm. It rained sporadically with showers most of the journey home except for the dirt section from Esperance to Lake King, where the weather managed to maintain its composure.

Re: ANZAC ride to Hopetoun & Esperance
Thanks all.
Sorry Cookie couldn't make it to Esperance again.
Congrats to Cookie even Spacey didn't get lost with his route plan.
I would add that Marree need a commendation for riding Cookies bike to Hopetoun.
Some great scenery around Hopetoun.
A bit less dirt via Cascades Road to Lake King than we expected.
The dirt a lot smoother after the Lake Tay Mine turn off.
Only light rain on the way home.

Re: ANZAC ride to Hopetoun & Esperance
A good few days away...a small group decided to take two days to return to Perth. Left Esperance and headed for Peak Charles which involved some challenging riding conditions (sand in a couple of places)...the track is impassable after rain but it was mostly dry when we negotiated it. Camped at The Breakaways after negotiating the track leading up to Maggie Hays Hill and onto the Hyden to Norseman Road. It rained during the night and most of the morning. There were several 'Oh shit' moments for all of us as we rode out to the bitumen 50km east of Hyden. Slabbed it back to Perth in amongst downpours and high winds.
Thanks for the invite Cookie....heal quickly.
There were some great vistas along the route to Hopetoun. This is a viewing platform in the Fitzgerald National Park.
Dawn Service - Esperance.
Lest We Forget
I haven't spent much time down this neck of the woods....SPOT Tracker showing the route from Esperance to Hyden - Norseman Road
Some treacherous and difficult riding conditions with rain before and during the ride west to Hyden. The road was closed to traffic by the time we hit the blacktop.

Re: ANZAC ride to Hopetoun & Esperance
At the moment WITH would be fine Tom as the 'Black Hawk' is still down
Booked in next Wednesday to have Clutch lever, Gear Lever, Handlebar Risers and Oggy Knobs fitted.
Ordered Oggy Knobs 3 x weeks ago and have just arrived from Melbourne???
Would have been fitted before last weeks incident if they had arrived at a decent time
In the ute again tomorrow mate.

PS: Up for an arm wrestle yet???
