Mount Augustus Fuel

Post by Bozo »

Mount Augustus is at least 300 kilometres from fuel at Gascoyne Junction, Meekatharra and Murchison.

There used to be fuel available at Cobra Station and at Burringurrah. Both these are closed despite there being online references still about accommodation and fuel at Cobra Station.
The brochure on Mount Augustus that I picked up in Gascoyne Junction still showed fuel availability at both places.

Burringurrah used to have a store but it is now closed meaning its 180 residents shop at Mount Augustus or elsewhere.

The Mount Augustus Tourist Park has RON 91 fuel from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm. It costs around $1.75 a litre

Cobra hasn't had fuel for a few years, I have come accross this issue on HEMA maps before, pays to check if your relying on it, I have had to wait 24 hours for a fuel truck to show up in Nullagine and also Marble Bar, it is apparently not unusual in these places and others on the same fuel run to run out when the tourist season is humming

I can understand HEMA Maps and HEMA publications being out of date.

Hotels Combined are still advertising accommodation at Cobra Station
Cobra Station Hotel offers a comfortable setting while in Carnarvon. It also provides a dry cleaning service, a laundry service and a tour desk.

Guests of the hotel can make the most of the property's gardens. Pets are also welcome.

Cobra Station Hotel houses both a restaurant and a bar where guests are able to unwind at the end of the day with a meal and a drink.

The hotel is within walking distance of Carnarvon Visitor Centre.
It seems that Cobra closed down in August 2014 and TripAdvisor is still showing it as being open.

I picked up a brochure from the Gascoyne Tavern that showed it as being open and having fuel.

Luckily our group all had 400 km plus range and it was not an issue but it made me look pretty stupid insisting that a cold drink was just around the corner.

You wouldn't think it would be that hard to change the information available for fuel, accomodation etc for travellers would you,....maybe a couple of phone calls?
Not a good look.
BTW, I have experienced Mt Augustus run out of fuel as well, fortunately I was one of the last of a handfull to top up.
