Looking for Leschenaultia

After experiencing the magnificent wildflower season in the north, a group of eight headed out to locate the electric blue favourite of the Darling Range...Leschenaultia Biloba.

Kim, Wes, Eddy, BillB, GS Bill + Trish, Wightman, Tom and Bozo battled through single digit temperatures and cyclists to spot the first isolated bunch of Leschenaultia at South Ledge (Mundaring Weir). The group dropped into Lake Leschenaultia and had difficulty leaving the warm café. A keen eyed Tom spotted a purple Holly Leaved Hovea. Bumping along Bailup Road more Leschenaultia was spotted. Coffee at the Coca Cola Café caused the group to split with Kim and Wightman Clacklining home.

The rest were to travel via Dewars Pool Road but ended up on Coondle West Road and Julimar Road. Ultimately they reached the Udamung Nature Reserve to spot Hibertia, Swainsona, Isopogon, Cowslip Orchids and Sundews. Riding along the newly sealed Hay Flat Road the group arrived at Wannamal to see the first of the Fire Orchids (aka Potato Orchid or Undertaker Orchid) in bloom. Eddy headed to Gingin and the rest retired to the Bindoon Bakehaus. The Premier, Colin Barnett, was as popular for selfies for the locals as pies for the BMW group.

A quick trip through the Chittering Valley and the ride was over.
