A Bee or not a Bee that is the Question

Post by Bozo »

A packed morning a Catalanos. Good to see DFS back to do a spot of harvesting. Not sure what happened to the H series BMW 1200's roundels.

Eleven riders headed down the Albany Highway on the way to Wandering. BillB, GS Bill + Trish, DFS, Swampy, German Paul, Tom, Alex, Rob, Wightman, Rosco + Maria and Bozo took on the haze and the plethora of insects to be amongst the hundreds of motorcyclists hitting the road. DFS pulled up at North Bannister with an insect doing laps of his ear. The Can Am separated from the group and 10 bikes continued on to Wandering.

We were sussing out the best way to get to Congelin. Travelling through Wandering we turned off on the clearly marked Fourteen Mile Brook Road. At the intersection with the Dwarda Crossman Road, the bitumen riders headed to Crossman led by Wightman and BillB, GS Bill +Trish, DFS, Tom and Bozo continued on on 14 kilometres of Gravel. The gravel was OK, a bit ball bearing at first but it improved.

The Congelin Camp turnoff from the Fourteen Mile Brook Road is clearly marked (don't wait to get to Congelin Road which will take you to Narrogin) and the road is simply signed as "York" being the York - Williams Road. BillB turned up with a welt the size of a ten cent piece on his chest saying I have been bitten by something. Bee, wasp or flying ant...we will never know. A short stretch of gravel got us to the Congelin Camp Site to allow BillB and Tom to discuss the Camp Cook Off logistics.

We then travelled on the excellent link to the Albany Highway that comes out three kilometres north of Williams and caught up with the black bears at the Williams Woolshed. BillB tucked into a meat pie to see if that would distract him from his insect bite. Swampy gave us the story about being chased by an unmarked police car after another member of the group had a problem with throttle control.

BillB, Tom, Swampy, Alex, Rob and GS Bill + Trish headed home from Williams up the Albany Highway. German Paul, DFS, Wightman and Bozo headed for various forms of nutrition at the Quindanning Hotel. Big Al and his son arrived at the pub having been at the No Name Rally at Bridgetown. The group headed home via Dwellingup only to run into a booze bus and numerous police cars.

Thanks to Swampy for doing Tail End Charlie duties and for ride participants showing patience whilst we scoped out the Congelin Campsite access.

Hopefully BillB's welt will be abating soon and it will be irrelevant whether it was bee or not.

Sorry Bozo but I didn't know that bees would have cause to sting a Bilby surely??

As an aside to Bozo's normal in depth Ride Report whilst in Williams I was browsing through the Wool Shed and noticed some nice large bottles of Pickled Onions.
I subsequently purchased two of these nice large bottles to take home to Mary. ( Beats buying flowers ) 8)

Had a rather slow uneventful trip home keeping my eyes peeled for lurking unmarked Police Vehicles
When I arrived home I was very dismayed to find that one of my very large jars had fallen over and deposited it's substantial amount of vinegar into my top box in which various tools and other items were submerged in. The lid had leaked. ( Note to self ensure lids of pickled onions are secured tightly before transporting on a motorcycle or don't buy them in future whilst on a club ride)

However I was very grateful that Mr. Plod hadn't stopped and breathalysed us because Harry was well and truly "Pickled" at the time

Swampy

Sorry to hear about Harry Vinegar Honda's incident with the onions.

You might need to put your suspension onto ultra soft mode and turn off your ABS (Aggressive Braking and Starting).

I had a one litre plastic bottle burst in my panniers on the trip to Mount Augustus ...fortunately it was only my wet weather gear, a few maps, a cap and a pair of shoes that got saturated. Glad it was not vinegar.

Wightman presented us with a challenge ....find out why the shrub Pride of India should be planted at a pub.

There were numerous shrubs around the beer garden at the Quindanning Hotel.

Googling the plant gave a clue why there was a beer connection in its formal name....Lagerstroemia speciosa.

Bozo your reflection on the Shakespeare famous line from Othello or was it McBeth "to be or not to be is the question"' reminds me of many years ago when I was at school and a mere 15 year old lad. Our English teacher I seem to recall I fantisized over as to my young mind she was " a bit of alright" Anyway to cut to the chase she had us doing some homework on this Shakespeare play. I don't know what I was thinking but this "bit of alright"teacher picked me out from the rest of the class and with much display got me to stand up and explain to her how I could possible mix up "to be or not to be with to do or not to do"....... I seem to recall my red embarrassed face was probably a give away as to my crush, I can't remember how I explained the misquote...... Ah memories :P

Yea Bill, my English teacher was wasn't too bad either, I was sitting up front of the class in 77 daydreaming with a hardon, when she asked me to hand out papers, I had no choice but to get up, she had a smirk on her face
