Actually, for the record, the units were to the left of site...as for "pay their own way"; is that a slur on my Dutch heritage?Bozo wrote:Digger
I take it out the back means you occupied the windmill or do they keep that for travellers that each pay their own way.

No slur intended but it explains your enthusiasm for cycling and exploring the nether lands in Australia.

Got caught up in a local issue which affected me crossing the border today...the border was closed by protestors.
I lost a couple of hours as a result. I'd hate to have to clean up the mess!

Not ideal at a dodgy border crossing.
Looks like Amok Trey ingredients running amuck and will look good on the video.

As I was riding towards the Border I noticed long lines of trucks...I thought it may have been a curfew issue waiting for the Border to open. It was just before 8am. I was wrong.
Local Cambodian fisherman were protesting a recent increase in tariffs by the Thai government and had blocked the border crossing. No vehicles were entering or leaving. One official said I couldn't cross because "he was concerned for my safety". I crossed about two hours later although the border did not open to vehicles until noon that day.

I'd feel nervous using their kerbside refuelling facilities (from a quality control point of view) but the locals don't seem to care. Refuelling stations are in abundance but used mainly by cars and trucks. Scooters and motorbikes use these types of 'small businesses' cause it probably saves a few cents per litre.
I tried to continue to use backroads but like Burma, once off the main road conditions deteriorated quickly. I had to cut my losses and return to the highway.

The last day of significant riding. Early start; early finish. I try to be on the road before 7am to make use of the cooler part of the day. The humidity is still a killer though.
You can buy a local SIM card here or....get them to spit roast your cow. Versatility is the key. They must be catering for a crowd later.

Not centuries old but an impressive garden ornament none the less.
Destination...Siem Reap, Cambodia. I'm staying about 400 metres from Pub Street (think Northbridge) and will return to Oz later this week.
Distance cycled to date - 2,034km.
Shows over Slackers...get back to work.

Enjoyed the slide show...look forward to the video.
Your trips are always more interesting than a cruise along the Rhine.

Funny you should mention that. I plan to cycle Euro Velo 15 (look it up) in July which follows the Rhine from the source to where it ends in the Netherlands. At least I know it'll be downhill (except for day one...that'll be a bastard).Bozo wrote:Digger

Awesome journey through that part of Asia, Digger!
Keep pumping those quads and the camera button...
When you've completed the Rhine expedition, have a go at the Danube.
Spectacular cycling from Regensburg, Passau, Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest, Bucharest, finishing up at the Black Sea.
Cycle paths to die for... blueberries direct from the farmer, B&Bs everywhere, catch a ferry when you're feeling broken

I had heard of the Euro Velo routes from a German father and son we met in Oxford who had just ridden the Rhine Route and were ecstatic about it. He was a medical doctor and said it was very uplifting and spiritual...the video should be excellent. Just don't turn into a Trappist when you hit Belgium.
