Covert use of the Bannister Brush

Normal service at Catalano's resumed for the BMW MCC WA this morning.

A focus of attention were two HP2's parked toghether...an enduro and a megamoto. Another talking point was a stray Ducati Darmah bringing back memories for those who undertook the Italian experiment with living on the edge. The unbaffled Conti exhausts woke up several hearing aid assisted members when the Ducati sprang into life.

15 riders participated in the Sunday excursion being BillB, DFS, Robbie, Kim, Braam, JC, Mackerel Eddie, Gerry, Ted, Rob, German Paul, Bolton, Peter, Swampy and Bozo.

The Perth Hills were infected with cyclists made worse by their slow moving support vehicles as the group travelled up Orrong Road and Welshpool Road to Canning Road. Fortunately the interference cleared by the Brookton Highway and we had a good run through Araluen and past Canning Dam. Travelling via Bedfordale Hill the group travelled up the scarp on Nettleton Road and past Serpentine Dam via Kingsbury Drive. Swampy waved goodbye at South West Highway and Peter took over tail end Charlie duties. More riders left at Del Park Road with Kim and Braam deciding to head fro home. An enjoyable ride up the shaded Del Park Road had us regrouping in Dwellingup before a careful ride down the Pinjarra - Williams Road. A little less restraint was shown on the Lower Hotham Road before arriving at Quindanning to link up with Bolton who had gone on ahead to ensure we had a great table. JC headed straight home and the remaining 11 got stuck into food and conversation that covered skiing, trout fishing, Tasmania's east coast, shipping bikes, New Zealand and drivers licences for the over 80's.

Robbie decided to head back on the dirt so we were down to 10. Covering the section of the Pinjarra-Williams Road we missed on the way down we reached a deserted Boddington with both service stations closed. A short link got us to Bannister to refuel. We had a run in with a Harley Davidson rider who had to turn his music up to the top stop to cleanse his bike from being proximate to BMWs.

Traffic on the highway stretched the group out and it was not until much later that a message was sent to Bozo that one of the bikes had had a cardiac arrest and despite many attempts failed to show vital signs. The bike was carefully taken into the Bannister brush and hidden for later recovery.

Thanks to Bolton for adding to the amenity of the Quindanning stop, to Swampy for undertaking part of tail end Charlie duties and to Peter for standing in as tail end Charlie, assisting with the stricken bike and helping conceal it as well as ferrying the bikeless rider home.

The morning weather was glorious for bike riding and we were able to avoid traffic for most of the trip.

Hoping that the issue with the bike is simple to resolve and the recovery went without a hitch (the bike is one of the few in the club that has a hitch for a trailer).

Some great roads ridden today with an enthusiastic group.

Very enjoyable sojourn with members’ Bavarian iron getting a reasonable workout. Good to see 15 members participating and enjoying their country ride “fix”.
Thanks to our esteemed ride leader for a great ride and demonstrating a stirring military like command to “lets get going now” in a tone that had some members quivering in their boots and thinking there were going to be punishment pushups if not instantly moving to the command.
