My recollection was that there was some Montmorillonite with bauxite deposits but to simplify things can I just wish you an argillaceous journey next week and hope that you are not trapped in the sediments.

Bozo,
Enough already!
Your latest talk about argillites... It is cracking me up. This discussion, proceeding at a glacial pace, is nevertheless loess of fun.
Trouble is, it is very likely that everyone else will think we are just blowing bull-dust into the wind.
Good riding!

Hi Robin, good to see you partake of the forum again.
Re: It is the 21st Century after all...
I was the met manager of a gold mine, many moons ago and all of the heads of department were asked by the general manager, in the regular morning meeting, why the production had dropped by 10% in the preceding period:
1. The head of mining said that metallurgy department was throwing away half of the gold, to the slimes dam
2. I said that the geology department had pegged the pit incorrectly
3. The head of security said that workers in the smelt house should be searched more frequently
4. The head of geology said that the dominant seam had been intersected by an extruding xenolith and diluted by Precambrian gabbro intrusions

Re: It is the 21st Century after all...
Greetings KoosWA,
Self-imposed exile after too much of a good thing?
Sailing did get in the way for a while.
One-too-many close calls for me on the high seas in the last few years. The most recent saw me on-board RPYC yacht Huckleberry during the most recent Fremantle to Bunbury and return race. Huckleberry was the first yacht on-scene to the disabled FSC yacht Finistere. She had overturned just before midnight in appalling conditions well seaward of Mandurah. Lost her keel! All six POB were in the drink. When Huckleberry got to Finistere , mostly by good luck, one was already lost. One under the hull. I was the radio operator and liaised with the rescue services. We managed to get 3 POB safely on-board Huckleberry. In-all two perished. In the chaos we lost power to the engine - seawater into the tank kills a diesel every time. By good fortune, right as that happened a police rescue craft came onto the scene and we got blown away - literally. Limped back to Fremantle with three survivors under reduced sail.
I was the navigator on-board Perrie Banou II in the 2014 Cape-to-Rio Race when the fleet was caught in prolonged gale-to-storm force conditions. As a result a third of the fleet retired with one sailor lost. Another tale...
Motorcycling of any sort is terrific but I do have a particular and enduring passion for long distance adventure riding.
Good to be back in the fold.

Re: It is the 21st Century after all...
Greetings John,
Good to see your contribution about the loss of production from an old gold mine. Did Bozo inspire you with his discussion of argillite? Or an obtuse link to a vaporetto per chance? Maybe it was instead part of an article intended for the London Mining Journal that mistakenly found its way onto the BMWMCCWA Forum?
Whatever… Now we can add a gold mine to the video about riding on wet dirt roads between York and The Lakes.
Many thanks,
Raider
PS: Has your collection of BMW motorcycles been increasing?
