Bee Nine Cluster

Post by Bozo »

Another massive attendance at Catalano's to celebrate the Ides of February. Over 40 bikes ranging from 1600 cc to 500cc.

Nine riders took advantage of the cool weather to do the Wandering-Quindanning-Dwellingup run. Nannup Nick, Sophie, Stoy, GT Geoff, Goldie, Ted, Peter, Swampy and Bozo climbed the scarp and took Canning Road to get to Brookton Highway for a short link to Gardiner Road and Araluen. The rain and wind had swept the roads clean so it was an enjoyable run along Lady McNess Drive to Albany Highway. An angry driver in a white SUV sped up when there were passing opportunities and then slowed to well below the speed limit where passing was not safe. Combined with the impacts of a slow moving caravan and an ammoniated stock truck the group was very strung out. Regrouping at North Bannister we turned off onto the North Bannister Wandering Road that we had all to ourselves and the masses of bees that were gathering honey from the masses of gum blossom.

A brief stop at Wandering was followed by a run along Fourteen Mile road and the Crossman Dwarda Road to get back to Albany Highway before a run into Boddington on the Crossman Road.

Our stop at Wandering was in front of the Len Zuks sculpture "The Horses came first". Len's work is most prominent in Byford.

From Boddington we took a twisty ride on the Pinjarra Williams Road to arrive at the Quindanning Hotel. Truck driver serves of lasagne and pasta filled the group's table making the burgers look minute. The discussion quickly moved to bees given their frequent impact on the bikes and riders on the journey to date. The Ligurian Bees on Kangaroo Island, gum honey induced bee rage, bees in a barbecue, bee baby sitting, honey prices and stung firefighters were all discussed but in a benign way. Car owner virus was also an infectious topic.

The group headed back along Lower Hotham Road and another section of the Pinjarra Williams Road to get to Dwellingup before a run down Del Park Road and home along Hopeland Road and Kargotich Road.

Brilliant riding weather. Thanks to Swampy for tail end charlie duties and for Peter for bee ing there when Swampy buzzed off at North Dandalup.
