Howdy Bozo,

I rode south today to Ballingup (on dirt between Dwellingup and Collie) and along a brilliant section of the Blackwood River - partly on Radiata Road (also dirt). Will go for a ride again tomorrow (Sunday) whilst I can - one more 750km day ride along brilliant WA roads before Tuesday's statewide lock-up.

I am deeply concerned that the medicine this state and our country is to endure is shaping to be much worse than the disease!

Given you are already stopped at a RED light may I suggest the Taiwanese chap waiting at another RED light might give you some ideas as to what to do until that light turns GREEN.

The ride that Raider is going on , he is on his own. No one else involved.
I have been riding every day this past week. No problems with any law enforcement.
Your '' we've been asked to reduce Non essential travel comment '' . Is an advice, NOT Law. That law comes in at Midnight Tuesday in regards to travelling between regions within WA.

So your selfish comment to a Club member that '' ( recently returned from interstate ) '' just to clarify that for you was over 2 weeks ago.

I followed your advice to look at motorcycle exercises. Only got to the calf and ankles bit and I thought "calf and ankles" the better thing is to go for a solo ride. I made it corona virus friendly by packing food and water, having a full tank of fuel with the only surface being contacted being terra firma. This way I could do a 400km ride without stopping in civilisation. Enjoyed a ride on Mornington Road, past Wellington Dam, Pile Road, Henty Road, Nanaga Brook Road and Del Park Road. Zero impact on the challenges facing WA and zero risk to me with hand steriliser being regularly applied and the closest contact being with three bemused emus ten metres away and two wandering sheep.

We need to look at the reason why constraints are being applied unless they are law.

My new non swear word after watching the motorcycle video is "calf and ankles" and I am sure I will get plenty of opportunity to use it.

Howdy Bozo & club members,

A terrific ride today after a late (7:10am) start. The late start accounted for a shortened 660km ride that did include quite a bit of dirt.

A calm, cool overcast morning with a few showers as I headed southward. The afternoon was warmer with cloud dispersing as I headed back northward. Some terrific minor bitumen road and dirt road riding that included sections of the Blackwood River and the dirt from Collie back up to Dwellingup. The dirt section of Nanga Road is currently in pretty rough shape - Alcoa work.

As I headed south there was noticeably less traffic than usual. However, that changed once I got onto Mornington Road (coincidence!) where I encountered my first group of road riders. Incredibly, as the day wore on I encountered more motorcyclists than I have EVER encountered on these minor roads. On the dirt I usually don’t encounter anyone. At most, usually a solitary vehicle. Very rarely, a dirt rider. Today I encountered numerous 4x4’s.

The little villages we all stop at for coffee, including Dwellingup and Ballingup, are looking desperate. The coffee shops are open but largely without custom. Difficult times for sure.

As for the big R1250GSA HP it is the perfect bike for such a day ride. Range today about 670km. I fuelled-up on the freeway south of Perth this morning. That was sufficient.

Every day-ride such as this Sunday-ride is a time for reflection and meditation-of-sorts. Today I pondered just when our fine country will get past the current upheaval, including an oil crisis AND the Kung Flu crisis (look it up…) and back to some semblance of what it was before COVID-19. As I eluded to in my first post, I hope the medicine (Kung Flu Fighting? Who said that?) is less damaging than the COVID-19 virus to our Australian population. Something, perhaps, for civilised dialogue…

I look forward to getting the Bozo “green light” for the next full-blown day-ride sooner-than-later!

Today’s ride was a real beaut - in the groove all day. I rode well on the dirt. Felt very good. The big boxer sounded very good too! A proper howl when on-song and with the block-tread Conti-twin ripping and grabbing the dirt. To be remembered by me as the Kung Flu Ride of 2020.

As a club member you have access to my email and other contact information. Your first communication should have been directly with me. That would have been courteous and expedient. We could have discussed your proffered concern regarding lawful travel in Western Australia; given the COVID-19 restrictions, including superseded and pending restrictions, placed by State and Federal authorities.

Having chosen to go straight to the BMWMCCWA Public Forum you showed your hand. You just wanted a chance to grandstand. Your moment in a small low-wattage incandescent and flickering flashlight. You chose to grandstand from Bozo’s coat tails, not on your own two feet. You chose to reach up from those coat tails on tip-toe and signal to the world YOUR particular virtues. You tried to berate me. Pathetic! You demonstrated you are petty and worse… Too bad.

You have NO authority to tell me what to do.

The chatter on the Eastern seaboard in the riding community has been about the impact and diversion a mishap can have on the emergency services and medical facilities. That goes for all activities but more so for those that are a bit more risky / dangerous.

JeffD is a very valued member of the BMW MC Club who has gone out of his way to host events and help club members. I respect his intellect, judgement and generosity. The pandemic is a serious health, metal health, economic and social issue. Many of us are struggling with how we will survive without the circuit breaker that motorcycling provides in our lives. We need to cut each other a bit of slack and recognise that all of us have concerns over our family, close friends, colleagues and neighbours.

This will be along journey and social media will be an important way of keeping us linked and sane. I have been very guilty of blatant stirring in the past but now is not the time for that or attacks on other members.

With a members criticism of other members heading off for a solitary ride being shown on this forum, I admit I also headed off for a dirt ride on my GSA on Sunday only riding about 300km with about half of that on dirt.
As many motorcyclists use their getting out for a ride as a form of relaxation therapy, escape and also if necessary as a means of getting to work there needs to be some sense made of the way the virus is spread and why the authorities have indicated that unnecessary travel and remaining at home is necessary. As has been regularly hammered consistently by the media the spread of the virus can be curtailed by reducing exposure amongst groups of people in close proximity, with some people not having symptoms and being unaware they are carrying the virus thus potentially infecting others etc.
It is apparent with this nasty virus causing much angst amongst the population there needs to be some sensible plan devised by the authorities to enable the death rate to be minimal. They have announced certain guidelines and in my situation as a dentist we are now on a level 3 lockdown situation where we can only treat emergency patients in pain and then only with strict protection protocol until further notice. I will only go into work to treat those patients that fall into the emergency situation rarely, thus like many businesses foregoing income and having to carry the fixed costs of running a business probably for some time.
In the situation of heading off for a motorcycle ride, presently with the authorities stand on remaining home and avoiding non essential travel I am sure they haven’t taken we “Solo” motorcyclists actual risk factors of virus transfer into consideration. Understandably they have “broad brushed their guidelines” to make a general statement for their guidelines.
A solo motorcyclist if they avoid others and is just riding is not going to transfer any more viruses than if they had stayed at home. The problem arises when groups of riders head off on a ride and like the beach goers that disregard and thumb their noses at the authorities guidelines causing beach closures, it forces the authorities to make blanket laws with attached penalties to enforce them. This leads to the dilemma, where the authorities in order to control the population and to control the idiots floundering what they are trying too achieve, their response is to make regulatory conditions imposed that don’t take into account where sensible thinking individuals wishing to carry out non risk activities are also subjected to these blanket regulations being made by the authorities.
With the club individuals that have been mentioned and criticised, given the people concerned are all worldly experienced,fairly intelligent and been well regarded members of this club let’s wait and see what the authorities come up with.
If as a club if we disagree then it’s up to the club as an organisation to alert the authorities that our solo riding done sensibly and with our members being aware of virus spread there is little risk of spreading the virus with us heading off on a solo ride that many members probably need for their mental health and well-being.
Let’s see what pans out and in the meantime I wish all members to be sensible and stay healthy
