Early Bird Late Advice Thursday - Today Ride June 4

Post by pspencer »

I’m away for a week, slaving down south, looking forward to a ride today. But no action!
So Shell Ascot leaving at 8:15 after a warming coffee at the adjacent Gloria Jeans, heading to Mojos in Mundaring, leaving there 9:00.
Thought a tour of the York, Northam and Toodyay Lookouts was due and then off to Calingiri for a toastie. Back via Bindoon.
Weather should be perfect for a Wheatbelt tour.

Solo ride to Mojos and no sooner had I stopped and Swampy arrived on glistening Elsie. Just started to chat when Chris of PD fame arrived on his treadly, out for a bit of exercise.
So the two youngsters headed off on GEH, to the Lakes, GSH to Yarra and the Talbots to York. Sun was shining as we ascended the lookout road with a short stop to admire the York countryside. Freshly seeded paddocks stood out with the recent moisture and sunshine providing perfect growing conditions.
Back onto the trusty steeds and directly to the Northam Lookout. Not as spectacular as York but still a great vista. Temperature rising with low twenties reached as we headed off to Toodyay. The Toodyay Lookout was crowded with tourists admiring the Toodyay Hills, not really, had the place to our selves.
Swampy had to get back home early in the afternoon so we decided to visit his favourite CCCafe, but it was so crowded we had to have takeaway in the adjacent park, no problems with warm sunshine. We solved the world problems and Swampy headed directly home and I headed north to Bolgart and then Calingiri. Both towns very quite.
With mid twenties temps I took the Calingiri Rd to the GNH and headed to Bindoon. Didn’t stop but it looked like the Bakehaus was open for takeaways only. With the perfect riding conditions and the RT gliding along the Chittering Valley was too tempting to bypass. In no time I was back into suburbia and heading for home with 27 degrees sunshine.
Thanks to Swampy for his excellent TEC performance and company and Chris for meeting us at Mojos.
An uneventful but very satisfying run into the Wheatbelt with 360 kms in total. Will have more notice for next Thursday’s ride.
