Longer Friday Ride July 3 Instead of Thursday Ride

Post by pspencer »

To chase the better weather on Friday gsrider {Ross A} has proposed a ride to Koorda on Friday July 3.
So as there was no Sunday Ride and the forecast for this Sunday looks bad the longer ride of approx 500k return looks great to me.
So I propose meeting at Mojos Mundaring at 7:40 am on Friday July 3 for a quick coffee and leaving 8:15am heading to Toodyay to meet up with Ross and any other Northerners at 9:00am.
Ross has kindly offered to lead us to Koorda and we will return perhaps on the GEH.
So looking forward to seeing an enthusiastic crowd heading into the green Wheatbelt.

A terrific day with some great ride companions and just to let you know Rip Van Winkle managed to stay awake on the last leg and arrived home at 1730 unscathed

A little shaken and stirred but REALLY WIDE AWAKE

Good news Rip!
A chilly start, around 8 degrees as Swampy, Wes, Nick, Nurzo, Ross Fiery and I stood in the weak sun at Mojos at Mundaring enjoying the warming effects of the coffee. A bit of discussion on the upcoming AGM and then five of us left Ross Fiery, who had committed himself to fire station duties, and headed off through Stoneville, Mt Helena, Chidlow and Wooroloo to get to Toodyay to meet up with Ross A.
Nurzo headed home with Ross leading us off to Goomalling. Clear blue sky, temperature rising to mid teens and green paddocks- perfect riding. Wheat starting to grow and canola also in various states of growth. Dowerin was our next destination where we hit the Bakery for a warming coffee. The sun outside had some warmth now, so we stood outside chatting to the locals.
Koorda, the town with the Drive-In, was calling so the Boomwers were soon gliding to our lunch stop. Roads in great condition with very little traffic, perfect. The IGA was the centre of activity with little else to choose from so sandwiches, rolls and chicken wings were quietly consumed in the local park with the warming sun pushing the temperature up to 20 degrees. Sweet! Saw one of the last remaining operative Drive Ins as we headed out of town. Reminded me of my childhood and teens times. A lot of entertainment at the Drive In, nod nod wink wink.
We decided to head home with a different route so we headed off to Wyalkatchem, circled Dowerin and headed to Meckering where a coffee stop was required to keep us going, especially Rip. All the towns we passed through seemed to be idling away but we stood out as visitors with locals always asking where we had ridden from, always friendly.
We split at Meckering with Rip, Wes, Nick and Ross heading to Northam and splitting further there whilst I headed to York and then home.
Thanks Ross for suggesting a town to visit that few of us had been to and leading. Thanks to Rip for TEC duties and of course to all for great company.
A dose of the countryside in perfect but cool conditions is very uplifting. It was one of the few rides where none of us peeled off layers of clothing as we warmed up, but no complaints about getting cold. Another destination to remember for the future. 530km home 4:30 a satisfying longer ride.

Thanks for the ride report, you had a great day for it and I wished I could have been with you but am out of action for the next six weeks, Doc says no riding till mid August, had an operation, all good.
It's always the best time to get out in the wheatbelt this time of the year, cooler, quieter and the bike runs nice and crispy.
