Misfire on Orchid

Post by Bozo »

A rambunctious but orderly group today at Catalano's to get their share of oxygen from the South Pole.

Eight riders and a pillion headed north with the intent of locating a fire orchid in bloom. Almost half of the group were related and they led the mass exodus as soon as Bindoon Bakehaus was sighted. Emperor Eddie, Firey Ross and Bozo continued up Crest Hill Road to a Moolabeenie Road full of Leschenaultia before turning off on Wells Glover Road to get to Wannamal.

The Fire Orchids were still in the "elephant ear" stage...a large green leaf on the ground....so Firey Ross now has a trio of trips to Wannamal without sighting a Fire Orchid in bloom. A picture of one taken at Wannamal a few years ago is below:

Plenty of other wildflowers were spotted including Dryanda, Isopogons, Trigger Plants, Blue Squill, Cowslip Orchids and Donkey Orchids.

A great ride, mostly dry but still a poor record of spotting fire orchids in bloom. Great to have Carla and her Dad along for her second BMW Father's Day ride. Thanks to Firey Ross for doing a great job as tail end Charlie.
