Mojos was humming yesterday with the BMWCWA members in deep meaningful robust discussion about “General Group Riding” and the “Cornerman System” based on the first pass papers. Thanks to Swampy, Wes, Nick, Eddy, Steve, DFS and Brian for their input and to Bozo for his email input into the first pass papers.
With Wes and Steve not joining us on the ride 6 of us headed off east on the GEH with our destination the Northam Bakery.
No sooner had we entered Sawyers Valley, with us practicing our corner marking, when we had a minor hiccup with DFS’s PD. Some confusion prevailed with one lesson learnt, CORNERMEN DO NOT LEAVE THEIR CORNER, unless directed by TEC or the lead rider. The PD issue was resolved so off we headed through Sawyers Valley, Mt Helena, Chidlow and Wooroloo to cross the GEH and down Inkpen to Yarra and Talbot West.
Talbot West was a fine opportunity to check out the performance of our UHF 2 way radio communication between lead rider and TEC. It appeared 2.8 to 3 km was the limit in that undulating terrain. Still it proved they will be an acceptable back up on the coming Nannup ride.
We veered off Talbot West at Qualen West Rd to stop at Dog Rock and pick the brain of DFS re various crops, hay drying, silage, barley, oats etc. Very interesting. We used Talbot, Cut Hill and the GSH to glide into and past York and head towards Northam.
The Northam Bakery was busy but soon supplies were purchased and we sat outside in fine weather. Some enjoyed the food some didn’t, typical lunch. Two of the older locals surprised us with 8/10 stickers on their foreheads which they said was their use by date. So I guess we will not see them again.
Through Spencer’s Brook was the chosen exit route from Northam so I took the chance to take them down my own road - Old Spencer’s Road. We were soon back onto the GEH heading to Perth.
Thanks guys for a great day and especially Swampy for his remarkable TEC performance.
