Hopelands springs eternal

Post by Bozo »

Many times we have passed the Hopeland School without knowing its history. The area was developed in the 1920’s as part of group settlement and the first school was built in 1924. The current weatherboard building was built in 1933 but closed in 1954 and is now used as a community centre.
A good gathering at Catalano’s with braces of Chris’s. Jamie put in another appearance and Dinga brought his dead roo encased fuel tank.
Nine riders headed out for a run to Waroona via Dwellingup. John, Nick, Robin, Mark, Adrian, DFS, Gerry, Peter and Bozo took advantage of the cooler weather to do a 300 km run via Canning Dam, Serpentine Dam, Dwellingup and Lane Poole Reserve to get to the Pinjarra Bakery in Waroona. A lot of cyclists, motorcyclists and cars on the back roads but apart from waiting for a dropped motorcycle from another group on Chevin Road we were able to make good progress.
A lot of debris on the roads from the wind and the black cockatoos but our group managed to stay upright.
A quick run home via Coronation, Dowsett, Garling, East Coolup and Burnside Roads before the Corio Road twisties and Hopeland Road.
Thanks to Peter for running as Tail End Charlie.

The group stopped at the Hopeland Community Centre today with Peter doing a bit of trash talking about school incinerators.
