Jink through Jarrahdale to Serpentine Dam

Post by Bozo »

A solid turn out today with Jamie's last breakfast before he heads east. A rambunctious Raider arrived on his R18 with his GS being valet delivered by Beemer Dave. Nurzo arrived with a tender shoulder, still recovering from surgery.

Ten riders took up the challenge to get to and from Serpentine Dam without getting wet, although Ross and Wes bailed at Carmel to go for another session of therapy at the BMW wellness centre. Dane, Dale, Kim, Russell, John, DFS, Peter Bee and Bozo dodged kangaroos and road detritus to weave up the scarp and past Canning Dam. A run down Bedfordale Hill was followed by a servo stop at Byford where coolant was closely watched on a BMW 1000RR. With Bozo announcing that we would take a jink at Jarrahdale to get to Serpentine Dam there was amusement in the group as to whether a jink required dismounting from a bike and whether two jinks were a jinker jink.

A quick Google confirmed that a jink is a sudden and nimble change in direction and is Scottish in origin. It can refer to dancing where the term high jinks originated. A jinker is a wheeled device allowing loads to easily able to change direction. Bozo's use of the term jink related to the sudden changes in direction from Nettleton Road to Jarrahdale Road and then from Jarrahdale Road to Kingsbury Drive.

A large kangaroo crossed our path on Kingsbury Drive and luckily did not jink towards. With an eye to the darkening sky, the threat of the Damocles macrame hung pot plant above Dale's head and to facilitate John's presence at Optus Stadium we cut short our break at the Serpentine Dam Cafe. All but John and Dane did a loop past the prison where it started to rain. We experienced patchy rain on the ride home with clear blue sky tantalisingly close.

Not too bad weather for our first winter ride of 2021. Good to have Dale on his first Sunday ride and Dane on his second. Thanks to Peter Bee for running as tail end Charlie.

Bozo apparently you were not jinxed by the kangaroo jink, so the ride thankfully continued as planned. Thanks for another interesting ride, with some showers but not enough to get us too wet. Thanks to all for the scintillating company. 8)

Scintillating company.........as usual.
The Wellness Center was packed. But Wes and I managed to acquire the usual BMW table 9, it was cold. There was some confusion between the owners and us on what day it was. Did we get our days confused?, were we late for last Thursday...... or were we early for next Thursday. :?
