14 riders headed out to observe isopogons but two Kawasakis blasted off from the group when we hit the Swan Valley.
The remining 12, Goldie, Brian/5, Drew, Firey Ross, Nannup Nick, Sophie, DFS, GS Bill, Just John, Murray, Andrew + Ellie and Bozo scoured the roadsides for orchids and isopogons with the first being spotted in the Chittering Valley. Our first wildflower stop was at the top of Crest Hill Road Bindoon including Donkey Orchids and Cowslip Orchids. At Wannamal there were Isopogons (Rose Cone Flowers) more Cowslip Orchids and a lot of Fire Orchid leaves that should flower in the next month. At Mogumber there were Cowslip Orchids and Milk Maids. An excellent run along Yarwindah Brook Road was followed by a stop at Udamung Reserve where Andrew pointed out two types of green hooded orchids, the Jug Orchid and the Snail Orchid amongst the Parrot Bush and Isopogons. A sprinkling of Leschenaultia along the Great Northern Highway led to a bakery stop in Bindoon and a run home along Blue Plains Road and Lower Chittering Road.
A little early for the Spider Orchids and the bush ablaze with colour but a successful wildflower excursion. Thanks to Nannup Nick for running as Tail end Charlie for the bulk of the ride and for DFS tail ending us home.
