Sunday Ride February 23

Post by pspencer »

We had a group of 10 riders to join me on a convoluted route to our lunch destination of Toodyay Bakery. Leaving Dome Vic Park at 8:30am we headed out on Welshpool Rd and the Leach Highway to pass the airport, join up to Roe H and take a right at Toodyay Rd. Campersic, Haddrill and Weir Rds has us ascending the scarp into Brigadoon. Connemara Dr took us onto the whoop de doos of Lockwood and the always popular and stimulating O’Brien and Clenton Rds with a stop at the Peter Brock Memorial to catch our breath.
We had noted a lot of tree damage and debris due to the wind storms earlier in the week with the result Berry Rd was partially closed causing us a minor diversion down Reserve Rd and through Gidgegannup. Another minor diversion, cos we could, down Lilydale, Breeze and Mayo back onto Toodyay Rd. The normal route of Fernie, Salt Valley, Sandplain, Stirlingia, Racecourse and Toodyay Rd took us into Toodyay with a minor diversion to the lookout before hitting the Bakery.
The first floor balcony was nicely shaded with a high twenties temperature and a slight breeze. Perfect to participate in the yummy food and drinks and talk the normal rubbish. Numbers were down to nine at this stage.
The return route was Julimar, River, Lovers Lane, Toodyay Rd, Bailup, Needham, Liberton into Chidlow with the ride finishing in Mt Helena.
The temperatures had remained below 30 degrees and only moved to 33 degrees as we hit Midland.
Thanks to all for sensible riding, nobody lost, no breakdowns and a special thanks to Mick for TEC duties.
