Well, what can i say.. 125 views and not one reply, good community we have growing here.. found one anyway via munich motorcycles. "Better motorcyle repairs" German trained as well, has come across as a really good bloke so it should be a long association for me.

Sorry for the lack of response Ray, but what you ask is a real mine field!!
Recommending someone can break a friendship if that repairer makes a mistake or has a bad day on your bike regardless of how he treated others bikes beforehand.
I for one have never used a repairer so am in no way qualified to make an assessment of anyone out there from personal experience, the only way I would feel comfortable doing so. I think you will find most on this forum are in the same situation.
Dave Munroe from 'Better MC Repairs' is a great guy, but I can't comment on his work or experience regardless of what I think of him personally, though I hope you have all positive.

Hi airhead,

For me.. being my 1st beemer, is the lack of known servicing outlets besides "auto classics". I can do a lot of work myself, although i do need to learn about BMW's quirks or items that need attention, looking after that a jap bike wouldn't.
I am working far to much these days though to service my own bike, So for now i'm happy to have someone else do it as i want to keep it in good condition and realiable as i use mine often.

I read your original post "literally" and although I know of the two businesses offering BMW repairs and servicing I couldn't recommend either for the reasons Bill outlines. I did not realise that you were a "new" BMW person and that you may not even have been aware of their existence. Next time someone asks a similar question I will respond with names and contact numbers but the decision to use any business is up to the customer. ie here are your options but the decision is yours...

Some of us utilize the broad expertise and experience of the club and get things done at the tuning days. But I agree totally with Bill's opinion about recommendations. Although we all have our own experiences and opinions, often it is difficult to recommend even a great wrench in case he stuffs up on the next job, afterall, they are human too. We'd all love to hear of your positive experiences when you get the job done, but in fairness to the businesses who promote through the club, a bad experience being blurted on a forum is never politically nice, and best kept to yourself. Thus the silence on the forum.

Basic service items can be done at tuning days, and we now have more diagnostic tools that should cover just about all bikes. The club also has a collection of special tools. So, unless it is a big job or a really tough task, tuning days are good. Having said that, we have tackled gearbox overhauls and everything in a day's social event.

As always, if in doubt, ask Bruce....or Bill.....or any club members.

On the other hand forum lurkers, there is a PM button (private mail) that you can use to express your opinion in private as a response, but be sure it doesn't go public. Perhaps we should use this more to respond to newer members, rather than silence.

Ah, now this more like it... a few comments, I understand about suggesting "someone" but "knowlege shared is knowleged gained" in my book.. good or bad.
It is what makes the world go round so to speak... and hopefully in the the end.. less bad.

I hopefully will get to meet some of you people in time.. but work commitments don't allow me to at this stage.. and farrels breakfast at 7:30 would mean i would have to be outa bed by 5:30.. and also would like to attend these tuning days.. i'll find the time.

Cheers

What's wrong with getting outa bed at 5:30AM. Commitment lad, commitment. Or as Chopper Reid would say, "Harden the #### up". Only way to get things done.

We look forward to meeting you and having you join in. The club is all about people contributing to the benefit of the membership, so the more interaction the better.

The service days have been fantastic, not only for service and maintenance, but also social.

Geoff,
5.30am = skippy. Tender point in our family. I am more or less in the same situation but will make the meetings some day.
Is the club limiting its active membership by geography?? At least the web site allows some involvement for those of us outside the city.

The club is its members and what they do. Other than the long weekend camping trips by Lefty and Geoff and the GPS day Noel organised, lately there have been next to no rides formally organised. People have been turning up at Farrell's and going riding on ad hoc, spur of the moment basis. I have led a number of these.

There is nothing stopping a "country" or any other member organising a ride that requires riders to meet at some other location later in the morning if that makes it easier to get to.

A ride is a club ride as long as it has been advertised as such. Post a ride notification here on the forum under "Rides and Events" and it can be a club ride.
