The Bike? well, "luckily" I'd just had the ball joint cover on the Telelever replaced so no dirt made it in.... awesome eh? The beastie ended up scratching the LHS side badly, caught on the road and turned over, making sure to scratch many other parts and ended up on the scree on the side of the slope of the road pointing where I had come from.
Of course there was no phone reception, so it was a very sore extraction and lift of the bike once I got it back on the road. Sat on, and the handle bars were straight! Hit the button and it started straight away.Remember thinking, "Hey, this crashes well, Robin was right!"
Heading into Bullsbrook, it rode well, nothing seemed amiss, although the missing mirror and scuff on the small screen was painfully obvious.
"First things first I thought", so I bought a coffee, got out the BMW repair kit (Mobile phone) and started nutting what to do for insurance, I decided I wasn't taking he jacket off and looking as all the bruises really wouldn't be that impressive straight away anyhow.
Ended up I'd keep my no claim bonus and if it was deemed rideable to get it to the shop, o and to report it to Police. So I quickly told myself
Fortunately BMW was very good and paid half the parts price for the boot repair the day before, so as I dropped my less than pristine steed off, I paid for the day befores repair and went home to possibly the hardest part of any accident... I had to tell Jacky....
Most of you are married and know the implications of this, Jacky now has, how you say? Cart-blanche? to basically write any vehicle off, hell if she parks on the Perth runway and a airbus hits her, I will not be able to deride her because, you guessed it, I crashed a bike.... gah.
But she's the best for one thing, I am allowed to get another one... kinda makes up for it, but I'm still going to be reminded about this.. enternally...
Curiosity got me so I got on line and started at Bob's BMW microfiche site, I priced every part I could think of (including the subframe) and tallied a total of $6.5KUSD, imagine my surprise when the OZ total of parts came to a shade over $15KAUD!!! Holy hell.... they obviously coat stuff in gold over here!
It had ridden well, so I was surprised, but the insurance company wrote it off, kind of upsetting as it was a great bike.
The guys at the shop got my parts off it for me which was also fantastic, so if anyone's interested I have a pristine Wilbers *remote preload etc, and good condition screen to sell!
What to get next? Well, I'm thinking an adventure, take the screen off, the rear panniers, put a 1200GS handle set on and a Ventura rack, fit a small screen like I had and ta-da, a 1200GS with extra range! ?
Physically? mega sore ribs, LHS shoulder and knee stiffness and I admit I came out of it pretty well... lesson to be learnt, albeit, dang expensive.
BUT if you want a R1200GS for bits, I know where one is, only ridden on Wednesdays' and hell, the front Telelever boots' just been replaced!
