Hi, just returned from my first camp cook off, great ride out yesterday, great evening, fellowship and camp fire, wide range of meals on offer for the judges. Congratulations to all who took part and those who just came along for the ride. Damp ride back this morning, with more fellowship along the way, nice hot shower and all is good.

Even Catalano's was tooo wet this morning for everyone except one lone rider (Kenny) ..... well I was there too but on four wheels though so I don't think that qualifies. The girls were in shock - big table set up outside and Kenny and I inside in the warm.
Glad the cook off went well.

Great night, pity some of the softer people didn't want to get wet.

A big thankyou to all involved in the planning and preparation for this years camp cook off competition.

Despite the weather hampering the preparations and the numbers attending, it was obvious from the onset that the competitors were 'fair dinkum' about winning the various prizes that were on offer. We saw several seafood extragandas presented to the judges (who ate everything that was put before them 'bye the way !), a superb pasta (spag boll) dish by Steve, and a pork & vegie hangi from Mike, not to mention deep fried fish & chips and lamb cutlets from the camp oven from toni & Ken. 8)

What a feast, while Brian, Keith & I enjoyed some baked beans, rehydrated something, and tinned chicken curry & boiled rice respectively!

This was washed down with a compilation of beer, wine, bourbon & coke, port and some "German lemon rocket fuel".

We even invited some unwelcome visitors to join us, but fortunatley (for them) they declined our offer.

Thanks again to all involved, I had an absolute blast with lots of laughs. Many thanks to the sponsors and for prize donations: Auto Classic, Mainpeak and all of the others: too many to mention here.

To those that unfortunatly were'nt there, this is a definate for next year, so put it in your calander

Cheers

The fuller story will be in the newsletter. Meanwhile, here are the prize winners:

Best overall dish: Anthony Seymour - blackened BBQ pork fillets with a beetroot, pear & feta salad.
BMW Jacket (Auto Classic) and Jumper Leads (Better Motorcycle Repairs), Balaclava (Mainpeak) included in the prize hamper.

Most creative cooking method: Mike Stothers - pork & vege hungi.
Montane fleece jacket (Mainpeak)

Most creative presentation: Toni Butler - fish & chips served in newspaper origami bowls
Catalano's dinner voucher

Best seafood: Jamie Sewell - prawn with bescola & feta
CTek battery charger (Better motorcycle Repairs)

Best meat: Ken Butler - Rack of lamb & roast veges from the camp oven
Narva rechargeable LED torch (Auto Pro)

Best pasta: Steve Bly - spaghetti bolognaise
Bosch X85 toolkit (Munich Motorcycles)

Most improved: Tom Mahady - Devilled Saki Fsh
Puncture repair kit (Better Motorcycle Repairs)

Longest ride to camp: Herman Engelter - Mandurah to Goomalling. Herman also cooked a good damper & supplied some home-made limoncello.
T-shirt (Paddy Pallin)

Our prize pool was incredibly generous this year and so many thanks to our sponsors. Again, a reminder to support them well when you can.

There has definitely been some benefit - in this 3rd camp cook-off the improvement from Tom, Jamie & Ken is quite extraordinary! I can vouch that the lamb rack was the best meal Ken has EVER cooked!

And it wouldn't be an adventure if we didn't have to ride out on wet muddy roads.....

Well done all.

fyi: used my prize - Catalano's voucher - last night (no food in the fridge as we depart for Kenya tomorrow).

Ken ordered a seafood platter - best seafood I've had for a while with lots of bbq'd squid, prawns, scallops, fish etc. Not overcooked as some cooks are prone to do. I ordered a massive helping of penne vodka which is tonight's dinner.

I hadn't realised they were licensed. And the place was crowded, even on a Tuesday night.

Thought it worth a mention - reason to support them during the week, too.

p.s.and Lulu was there to provide her special brand of service.
