Hello Brian
Youre more than welcome, why not drop by for a Sunday morning coffee at Farrells in Vic Park from 7:30am, usually an informal ride kicks off from there after the morning caffeine fix. More often than not a GS influenced ride
Cheers

Hi Jono

I will defnitely get up to you guys one of those mornings. I actually picked my bike up today and it is great - what a buzz!

The rides that go from Vic Park are road based or off road? I am pretty experienced on the road but have almost no off road/track experience so I thought about getting some basic skills down at Kirup with West Coast Trail - what do you reckon?

The Adventure is a real blast - very different from my other bikes and a real 'raw' feel about it.

Thanks for the reply and catch you later.

Welcome Brian. Happy days ahead for you  !

I'm a newb here as well. Great bunch of blokes in this club. The informal Farrells rides are just the ticket to get started on your GS. Let the group know that you are new to off-road and I'm sure the 'ride' will proceed at the appropriate level... flat out (just kidding :P ). In fact most rides seem to be more about enjoying the day, the environment, the bike and the company rather than testing the limits. Tip - not sure if you have them but leave your panniers and, if empty, leave the top box at home too.

I can associate with your comments about your bike. I sold a KLR650 and bought my R1200GS only recently. Even though they are both 'dual sport' or 'adventure' bikes, the GS is (as you say) "a real blast". It's got to be the power-to-weight ratio that does it!

Psst... before a fella called Robin gets in your ear, and you heard this from me first, GET RID OF THE SCREEN! Try it. The 'clean' air wins every time. (Hah. Beat ya Robin!)

I won't be at Farrells until I return from Qld early October (I have to go over there to get some tyres for JonO  ). Look forward to meeting you when I get back.

Hi Shane

Thanks for the tips as all info greatly received!

I will make it up for one of those rides as it sounds like there is a good crew and a really good way to get started. I loved the ride from Greenmount back to Mandurah last night and I can see that this bike will easily cover the k's without any problems. I have always been a 'naked' bike fan (the bikes more than myself!) but I must admit I was loving my screen and those heated grips last night!

I can see that the panniers could be a bit of an issue off road and must admit that I was conscious of the width of the machine last night.

It's all good and will catch you when you are back - have a good trip.

Cheers

Brian.

Brian
There is a good mix of experience in the club, I have only had my GS for a year and I am still getting used to riding off road (learning as I go). I have found the tips and advice of the more experienced riders in the group very helpfull. If Shane hurries up and gets back with some new tyres I will be keen to try them out and see if they help further. Come and try a sunday morning run. Look on the BMWMCCWA club website for a calendar of upcoming rides

Shane I take it from your comments that you have taken the plunge and gone screenless!
I was thinking of getting a flowjet for summer; just dont like the look of the front end of the bike without some form of cover - just look at Richards - looks like he has had a bingle!
Just wait till that cloud of locusts crosses your path on th eway to the Rock!!
Incidentally when are we going... I think I will start a topic to encourage the planning and commitment process
