Mount Franklin Weekend 3rd-5th march

Post by Robbo »

An Invitation to all.

Nige & I are planning a weekend away for the weekend of Sat/Sun/Mon, the 3rd, 4th & 5th of March.
Monday being labor day.

Camp location will be Mt Franklin national park camping ground near the 'Mount' itself.
the most straight forward access for road bikes is Beardmore rd, which is off the South Western Highway.

Roads & tracks Western Australia.
page 5. D-8.

format.
We intend to ride down very early Saturday morning & camp two nights.
I would suggest departures, times & locations arranged by intended group dynamics. & routes chosen accordingly.

points to consider, traveling south, Manjimup will be the last chance to get fuel, being approx' 100 kms from the camp ground.
It's 25 kms from the main rd east to the site.
Walpole, where we will be able to 'stock up', is also approx' 25 kms to the south.

More the merrier,

Robbo.

Hi Robbo,
I'm in.
Possibly ride down with Cookie and then swing in (depending on what you've got planned for your route :P ( probably single goat tracks for chook chasers   ) the meet up at your camp site for the w/e, so you and Nige can take the p155 out of me 8) good chance to test out the new soft panniers.

Lets discuss over breakfast.

Should that read 'Mt Frankland' and not Franklin????? Can not find Mt Franklin in WA. Am interseted in going but may not be able to leave until later on Saturday. Do you have a definate location as to where you will be camping. Not been there before so i do not have any local knowledge.

Yes Steve that is right lol, It's Mount Frankland, i spelt it wrong to test people haha.

Off road group Leaving from THE DOME cafe at Canning Vale, This is located at the crossroads of Warton Rd, & Amherst Rd
about 7am for a strict 7.30 departure..!
Chris Grice will lead the way down to Collie, Where we will asses the time & route to follow from there.
Also.
Cookie is to lead a road crew to Peacefull bay the same morning, so if anyone wants to go by road that is an option, check with Cookie, but i presume they will pass the turn off for Mount Frankland.
What to look for !
Once on the South Western Highway, Access to the intended site is via BEARDMORE Rd which will be on your left (about 30 kms north of WALPOLE)
The Mt Frankland site is approx 25 kms further along than the Fernhook Falls camp site which will present itself 1st along BEADMORE.
If anyone has Jamie's contact could they please make him aware of this post,

Must stress this once again, Manjimup is the last fuel stop on the South Western Highway, (nothing between Manjimup & Walpole) FILL UP.
Thank you every one,
Hope to see you there. :P

What a fantastic weekend, Unfortunately 6 riders turned into 5 soon after the start with Davey taking a tumble, we split into two groups for a while, when Jamie and I went with Davey to Harvey hospital, once we had done all we could we headed off to regroup with Chris, Nige and Steve, then we rode some amazing dirt roads for the rest of the weekend, camping at Mount Frankland on Saturday night and meeting up with the Peaceful Bay group on Sunday night.

Thanks to all concerned, had a really great weekend.

Hope your back to good health soon Davey.
