Vetting of users will be good. Having said that, the method of stopping "bots" ( automated programs) from posting spam that involved having to replicate letters and/or numbers to verify it is a human typing don't work anymore as spammers now pay people in poor countries to sit and spam sites the whole day. We have a holiday home rental site that suffers that fate.

Check out this club. Neat but I think the current site serves our purposes and no need to spend a fortune if we can get events communicated and other news.

I agree with 99% of the comments posted.

Koos, I love the Pretoria website though the only reason I would see this as a good investment is that it would show case all the great stuff that the club does. Having said that, I get the feeling that we have a culture of 'just getting out there' so probably no need to promote this.

Does anyone know the actual cost of giving the website a bit of spit and polish?

Reklaw - please define spit and polish?

The cost will be specifically proportional to what you spit on and what you want to polish

How come at this time and date there has been:
15 votes....13 for 2 votes not for....

19 replies ?? and 206 views :?: :?: :?: :?:

thats the point of only financial members having the ability to post stuff and having a visitors section for visitors, otherwise we have the whole world able to enter and screw around with our web site :!:

206 views does not = 206 different people who have viewed the topic.
Each time you come back to read the latest update you tick the counter over +1 view
Lets suppose there are 19 votes so there must be a minimum 19 persons who have viewed this thread as you can't vote twice.
206 views divided by 19 = +/- 11. How many times have you viewed this thread Davey? It has been running for 8 days now
Do you check it daily? or perhaps twice a day? if you do the math you will see that the bulk of the viewings could easily be from active and interested participants in this thread, and that's not counting those who have viewed and not bothered to vote. It does not mean 206-19 ie 187 non club lurkers have been visiting the forum.

In any event I disagree with a closed i.e paid up members only forum, the restricted numbers would limit it severely. I do agree with a managed forum where new members are vetted and moderators delete spam. We have a number of visitors to the forum who subsequently visit the club and some then join. Keep it open just managed the content. We want the club and the forum community to grow do we not?

Lastly the forum is separate to the website, access to the forum does not = ability to stuff about with the club web pages

I think the forum serves its purpose well. I suppose we need an administrator that can block undesirable elements from posting and vetting new members when they enlist and try to post items. I would suggest that in "profiles" we give our full name, bikes we ride/like and membership number, as a minimum. John

Yes we certainly need to :"come out": with some means of identifying whos-who  The members only section should be the means of handling this. Like who the hell is reklaw, bryn, ahab ,grlo247etc?

On some Russian sites have restrictions on the opening of the. If the member does not write the message, then it can not start a new topic. We must take the limit for opening a new theme. If a new member of the club less than 10 messages, a new theme to begin it it is impossible. You can allow to open a topic in the section "advertisements", what would he introduced the members of the club. ....sorry for the mistakes.....With respect. Sergey

Good afternoon to all

I find the general appearance of the forum functional, if we can easily limit the spammers - that would be good, and try to maintain easy access and ease of use for interested parties.
