Swampy got his bike dirty

Post by Swampy »

Whilst enjoying a fast ride through some twisties this morning in the hills with Cookie and a bevy of riders on various types of bikes, I managed to overcook it on a sharp right hand bend and my bike took me into a ditch, up a steep bank on top of which I managed to steer along the edge of before my bike decided to part company with me. I managed to step off to the left and rolled on top the bank with a lucky soft landing whilst the bike fell back into the ditch virtually upside down with the front wheel pointing up hill and my rear wheel in the ditch.

Luckily I had company and Cookie took the obligatory photo's and with a couple of Ducati riders righted my bike with a minimum of fuss or further damage.

Damage to bike, Part of front brake lever snapped off, Plastic framework connecting my right hand pannier to bike snapped off. Minor scratches to windscreen, Bark Buster and pannier.

Me....Not a scratch (Phew, Very lucky Lad) :P

Bike started first go and is riding like a dream with nil mechanical problems.
Made my way home later in the morning after running up and down Toodyay Road a couple of times trying to locate the other riders Luckily I managed to hide the damage from the wife and spent the arvo cleaning dirt and crap off and washing and polishing the bike ready for tomorrow and another ride!

So Guys and Girls, Does this qualify as an "Off Road Rider" now????...............Or Just an "OFF"???

Will see some of you at Cats tomorrow for brekkie before heading off for another ride.....Somewhere?
If I miss you guys tomorrow, I will catch up with you in 2 to 3 months as I'm off with the wife to the Kimberlies and Northern Territory, My favourite parts of this country for a well earned holiday. :P
Take Care

Glad to hear you are ok Swampy! that's the main thing. Now you can start competing with Sprocket for spare parts on ebay

Now if you'd said you rode through the ditch and back onto the bitumen right side up, I think we could have classed that as an off road ride, but as it stands I think it was an off road off! 8)

Cheers

Hello Swampy

Glad to hear you made it home okay, you did well, full points for dismount style and maintaining composure 8)

Yes, you certainly do have street cred, the damage was insignificant and you piloted the mighty GS off without hesitation :P

Enjoy your trip to the Northwest, we look forward to your return and companionship on the next ride.
Regards

I'm glad you came out of this ok Swampy. It certainly sounds quite spectacular, and yes I would regard it as a dirt ride. Do you now feel the urge for more dirt? I hope to see you at Cats on Sun.
cheers Bill
