Some of you will have done this course, the one I did is the equivalent of the old "Senior First Aid", the last time I did it was 15 years ago and there have been some changes, particularly CPR, there is a multiple choice type questionnair based on the reference book they give you which you can do in your own time and then a day of tuition. Its not difficult and can be done with various organisations including on weekends.
The crowd I did it with is also about to release a Remote Area First Aid course which is one day, you will need to have the Senior first aid ticket as a prerequisite.
One of those things we are going to do but never quite get there!

Re: First Aid Course
Hi Bowe
I'm interested in the "Remote" course, can you keep me informed please? I already have Senior First Aid.

Re: First Aid Course-contacts?
This is a great initiative and would suggest that every group ride should have at least one qualified person - ideally a couple - could literally save your life one day... Also keen to do the course and have basic 1st Aid at moment.
I used to work in the outdoor recreation industry and have a few contacts that used to teach Remote Area First Aid/or wilderness first aid, could ask some advice and get back to the group if you would like?
Perhaps the club could subsidize those that get the extra qualification - given the benefits to members?

As far as I'm aware BMWMCCWA doesn't "organise" any group rides. Someone tell please tell me if I'm wrong.

Re: First Aid Course
Just completed the Remote First Aid course over 2 days with Surf Life Saving Australia in Balcatta. From talking to others doing the course it appears that some organisations that are better than others. The Remote First Aid course that I did with SLA is over 2 days, the first day is going back over the Senior First Aid ticket, the second day is applying it to remote areas.
The guy who did my course was first class and will probably be doing April's course for those of you interested.
I can certainly reccomend doing it, it certainly makes you think about riding solo into remote areas!!
If you want to know more PM me

Re: First Aid Course ? Training rides
I've also done that course and yes it's basic but also cheaper than full on wilderness first aid (5-6 days) which are designed for either remote area workers or outdoor instructors. However when you think where we ride it's reasonable to think it could take more than an hour to get medical assistance. The first hour after any major trauma is called the "golden hour" for good reason - what you do to treat an injured rider could save their life or not as the case may be. Hence the importance of having several riders trained up in more than just first aid
