My food is in the bag - the left hand bag on my bike, plus short-stop snacks in the tank bag.

I don't care what's in there, have been known to gnaw on empty tins.

You're overthinking it, it's not a cordon bleu event - it's the journey and the company that's important.

Just an observation; I don't see too many BMWMCCWA riders looking anorexic, me included.

 Well said Chris,
I think you have hit the nail on the head. If you are hungry enough you will stuff almost anything edible down your gullet to get rid of the feeling that your stomach is thinking your throat has been cut.

Yes you are also right that there don't appear to be many anorexic riders around in the club (Davey) Apart from me and a couple (2) of others

You can't go far wrong with the good old standby.........Baked Beans if you don't mind carrying cans around and sleeping by yourself

Mate, they reckon you can judge a man by the company he keeps - sleeping by myself on these trips is de rigueur.

I just noticed, I forgot to mention alcohol, now that's just an added bonus to the journey. Was it Groucho Marx who said: "When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading"?

Re: "Camp Meals" Quality coffee on the trail?

Post by DirtBoy12 »

Good thread Davey,
Yes agree and yes while some riders may just like 'gruel' and treat food as just an energy source like petrol in their bike, some of us like the challenge of cooking in the bush and eating great food while on the trail. As an ex-chef - you can guess which camp I fall into! :P

In terms of fresh brewed coffee on the trail: Firstly its hard to do a post on something that is so practical, believe there is a club camp cooking competition - and perhaps we could extend that to include a "fresh brewed coffee category".

But you can get hand operated coffee bean grinders - which would for the fresh "coffee connoisseur" be the only way to go - and yes you can get one and two cup Espresso makers, I recommend stainless steel:

http://www.amazon.com/Vev-Vigano-Carioc ... B001QVHZTQ

The other way to go is an AeroPress - lightweight and makes excellent coffee:

Or if you a weight weenie you could try the coffee mug infuser- which is my choice when weight is of a premium:

"Of course fresh ground coffee is a must and I could write a separate post on my brewing methods"
and

Would like to hear what you do with the fresh ground coffee beans - I now leave mine at home and drink black tea because I couldn't create a half decent cup of coffee. Was thinking I would get Bully to make a small expresso machine for me to take
Good thread Davey - I hate the prepared meals but admit to only having tried a couple so maybe not a fair test. I know buying anything thats been alive in the last month is just about impossible away from main towns -I carry a couple of onions to add to whatever I'm cooking - rice is a staple and packet peas. - mushrooms are good in early winter if you know which ones to eat!
A can of baked beans, with a small can of mushrooms in buttersauce stirred through, goes down alright!
