Snail Trails Perth
Snail Trails Perth
this is a concept started by Strummer in Brisvegas, Brian wants to run some over here as well, for some of you that came along on one of my beginner ride days then this may well be another step to get your GS's dirty.
For those that rode out for desert raid with Howard, I'm sure that you'd love to pick up some tips from him. For those that haven't seen him ride a GS, come along and be amazed, I'll be there on the 610 to show everyone what not to do, it's well known that I can crash with the best

Snail Trails Perth
Next Sunday!
All welcome.....particularly anyone wishing to come along on their first unsealed ride. The route has been planned and scoped out, so no surprises or booby traps
.
The roads/tracks/trails will be at an easy standard for beginners/ novices (even crap riders like me) and at your own pace, so no "devil take the hind most".
It is a first timers day with the intention of making it an enjoyable experience so folks want to do it again, and have a safe fun day to build confidence and camaraderie.
This has been organised by guy who is a self confessed newbie/ novice that wants to develop his own non-bitumen skills and enjoy the fun of off roading.
Although an ADV ride, and not a club event, all are welcome and bring whatever steed you wish.
Several experienced riders (Bully, Hill-billy and others) have very kindly committed to assist and will be on hand for a s^it load of experience, encouragement and moral support.
Go to the link above and thoroughly read it from the beginning including the disclaimer bit. Understand the point marker system and what you will be participating in. Take note of the details and appreciate things like locations and timings.
This is your responsibility, so don't bring a bike that's not reliable/ needs a service/ or is unsafe. If you need to get anything adjusted/ tightened/ replaced/ renewed then get it done. The group is growing steadily due to the keen interest of the attendees, and if you or your steed causes continual delays, you wont win any popularity contests, however, I must emphasise that you can ride as slow as you like.
The rendezvous is at a servo, so we can fill up there.
I believe a lunch break is planned for York. Naturally there will also be a lot of tools/ tyre changing gear, but as normal you should be carrying yours (+ first aid kit/ water) as that's your responsibility.
It looks like being damp (read wet), but that will keep the dust down.
I have deliberately not suggested that anyone bring their GS / GSA, as that's you own individual decision and it's not a club event. Others might add to this thread in that regard....
Time to work on the bike, kick the tyres, lube the chain (cant believe I said that
)..... another important consideration to remember...good tyres in good condition will defo give you a better day...shite tyres in shite condition can give you a shite day, so you've got a week (and don't use Trail Wings 'cause they're cheap, or come on a DR from the factory (ask me how I know)....get along to Tyres for bikes and get the club discount
If you want any recommendations, ask here, there's plenty of experienced guys can help
See you there..........

Happy to help...sweep or if the group is too big......
Re: Snail Trails Perth
Koos would be great to have you there,
there will be a few big bikes there,so if you want to bring a big fat pig out, there will enough people around to help pick it up.

Re: Snail Trails Perth
this is really starting to gather momentum, with Howard leading the way to York, should be a good day.
you idiots with GS's and GSA's should come along, at least there'll be plenty of people to help pick it up for ya. For the Suzuki DR branch you can come along for a giggle.

Didn't you have one of these not so long ago?
It's the Yamaha's turn to come out of the shed this weekend after spending the long weekend touring the backroads of Hyden/Cave Hill on the GSA. Hope i do not lose any credability leaving the big girl home!!!

I acknowledge that this ride is not organized by the BMW club and this is just my point of view but I will weigh in anyway...bully1 wrote:this is really starting to gather momentum, with Howard leading the way to York, should be a good day.

The concept is for a snail trail ride for those beginners or riders new to dirt or wanting to go gently and build experience is a great idea. Many people have been asking for this sort of opportunity.
But what I see on this forum is a number of very experienced riders putting their name down to go along and more experienced riders being invited along for a giggle (at who's expense?)
Its all well and good if the experienced riders are there to help, encourage and teach. But I suspect many will just be there to ride and enjoy which will inevitably pick up the pace. To then see a comment calling folk who take their GS or GSA along idiots is just plain concerning. 1) This forum is associated with a BMW Club, we ride the GS and GSA's 2) your'e effectively telling those novice riders who want to come along on a relatively easy and slow paced ride that they're going to spend the day picking themselves up off the dirt. Maybe its Friday and been a long week but its just sends all the wrong messages to me

all said with a grain of salt Jono, read my above post, the experienced riders should be coming along to help with the less experienced, the pace will be set by the lead rider, who has pre-run the route with the organiser to set the timing to his wants.
If the many members who have big bikes, who could not afford the time or expense of going to the BMW organised event, want to come along and participate and maybe glean some info then come along ( or not ). it seems that we have many members with GS's and GSA's who do not have the skills to ride them confidently off road, some of our members who do have these skills do not offer to take them out because of said "shortcomings " as a club WE should be doing rides of this nature. Riders need to push their comfort zones in order to improve their skills.
For this reason we welcome the likes of Steve and Mike as these riders have "been there and doneand lived to wrie the story.
it is afterall the BMW club so members should be confident riding these and not having to purchase DR's to enjoy the off road delights.
Once again all riders are welcome.
