Ferguson Valley (Not Nannup or Kirup)

Post by Bozo »

The Australian Road Rider current issue promotes the Ferguson Valley as WA's premium motorcycle ride.

Seven club members, Titanic Paul, Sleepy Paul, DFS, Davey Sprocket, Wightman, Kim and Bozo took the test.

The trip began with the "Ken Section"....Lesmurdie Hill, Canning Mills Road, Araluen, and Canning Dam followed by the Bedfordale Hill link to South West Highway. A brief fuel stop at Byford (for Titanic) was followed by a rider fuel stop at the Pinjarra Bakery at Waroona.
Wightman's Australia Flag BMW was the centre of attention even for the woman whose tattoos would make a Yakuza jealous.

The novelty of an overflowing dam attracted the group to deviate to the hills at Harvey. Two fully farkled GS's bristling with navigation technology turned east instead of west and would have been at Quindanning if the road had not not turned to gravel.

The group made it to the Ferguson Valley without further incident only to find that half the population of Bunbury thought that the Moody Cow Brewery was the place to have lunch.

The Australian Flag BMW fluttered off on its own reducing the group to six.

The Ferguson Valley was absolutely stunning and the weather was perfect for riding. The reports that Gnomesville was extensively damaged by flooding appeared an exaggeration as there seemed to be even more gnomes making Wellington Mills their home. DFS had trouble locating the BMW Club Gnome. Sprocket suggested he was home cleaning his 1200GS.

The winding roads quickly conveyed the group to Lowden where the decision was made to head to Donnybrook. Paul and Titanic headed north whilst the rest rode the Goodwood Road to Capel arriving at the Bean in Bunbury via the Back beach for a quick coffee.

A blast up the Forrest Highway finished the nine hour sojourn.

A great day with good company.

Thanks to Davey Sprocket for doing Tail End Charlie duties.

The BMW "Club Gnome" WAS there on Sunday morning with his lovely Gnomess.(Thanks Spocket man and Bozo) We were staying at the beautiful "Quince Cottage" which was about about a 1,000 metrs up the road.

Too early for you mob of "Bozo's" at 8am after enjoying a large plate of fresh sizzling "Eggs and Bacon followed by a steaming mug of "Twinings" (Black with 2 sugars please) in this lovely very private cottage set in a bautiful cottage garden complete with "Chooks,Ducks and fresh eggs straight from the chooks.............nest?? :P

Highly recommended for anyone looking for serene peace and quiet in the wonderful Ferguson Valley, Amongst Wineries, Farms and close to Wellington Dam.
(Gauranteed not to dissapoint) 8)

Returned home this morning along the VERY,Very Scenic hilly, winding (Great Motorbike Road) Henty Road with views of stunning valleys through to the coast.

Cheers Swampy

Introduce yourself to each other.

Make sure everyone knows where you are heading to, who is leading, and who is tail end Charlie.

Stay aware of the rider in front of you. Even when spread out, as when riding on dirt roads, do not go more than 5 to 10 kilometres without sighting that following rider (even if they are a few kilometres back).

Unless waved on by a corner marker, each rider should stop at any turns until the next rider has seen you.

Do not turn off the road you're on unless you see someone marking the corner.

If everyone does their bit, no-one gets lost or left behind and help is not far away should something happen.

Uhumm, err as per the above, if said riders followed said ride rules, then err umm "two fully farkled GS riders wouldn't have turned to Port leaving Harvey dam, but rather Starboard 8)! even Mrs Garmin didn't know "Gnomesville" or "Ferguson Valley", so for me in this particular case technology was not forthcoming,..however the farklemeister himself, having recently returned from the motherland (and still measuring distance by the ol' country mile) came to our rescue..........anyway,.......when said two fully farkled GS riders came upon a sudden change in the blacktop to err brown top, we both slowed and stopped, looked each other and smiled one of those "knowing smiles", both simultaneously nodding to eachother and thinking to ourselves, "hold on a minute..........there's a Boulevard and a r1200 cruiser in the group, nope, nope, no way they came this way!, so lead by the farklemeister himself, we turned around on said gravel and accelerated away in a glorious squirt of rear wheel spin and a cloud of red dust, popping outstanding wheelies until we re-joined the blacktop (only kidding right? 8) ). As we wound up the two master race masterpieces on our way to rejoin the group, we passed the F800GS and KTM 990 Adventure that we chatted to at Harvey dam, and then almost immediately afterwards we spotted Boze, coming at us at mach1 or was it at 140kph  He was just like a red healer rounding up a couple of naughty merinos that had nearly escaped his charge....

BTW, there should be a photo somewhere s of the Bozemobile parked in a disabled bay outside a Southern Country Restaurant which was, unfortunately closed at the time. Onward and onward to bunkey town for a cappuccino, soy latte in the main street of uptown Bunbury.

Then the dreaded highway of hell up to the big smoke....Perth drivers,....fair dinkum !! only 1 P plater at 110 klms texting with the left hand...drew alongside, blasted the horn, left index finger jerking to my head..WTF?.....she put the phone down, smiled and waved at me ..........

Swamp, that bit about the "Gnome at Home" washing his GS was a lie......

Happy birthday mate, hoped you had a great dirty weekend away..

Happy 41st plus x birthday.

Davey didnt exactly say those words about the BMW Club Gnome but it was hard for me to resist.

There is an official BMW Club that is a Bozo Free Zone:

See http://www.nobozosbeemerriders.org/

Sprocket and yourself should be honorary members
