Of rugged mountain ranges, of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons, I love her jeweled sea.
Her beauty and her terror, the wide brown land for me."

It was on e-bay Swampy. Did a deal with owner when e-bay item expired. Will bring it to breaky when I get back :P
Leaving on red eye tonight , arrive 7am Sat. Owner is picking me up from A/Port driving me south to somewhere near Coolengatta, will load UP MY CAMPING GEAR and other stuff, kick some tyres and head off down the M1 heading for Dubbo.
Then heading for Brokenhill, Pt Augustus, Ceduna and then try and catch up with Steve and Bowe for the desert crossing

Bill

Did you pick up a set of Heidenau Scouts as well for the desert crossing?

Minimum temperatures across NSW and SA are 4 to 8 degrees. Norseman and Southern Cross get down to 1 degree next week. I would do a "Robin" and budget for at least one heated room stop.

Paddling a 370 kg bike loaded with camping gear across a desert, with DRs buzzing by, is not much fun.

You are quite right bozo . My excessive body mass index even thou it should provide some insulation may not be able to cope with such very ordinary temperatures. Taking camping gear just in case  heated hotel rooms sounds the way to go.
Looks like some rain too

Thanks for the Sitrep Bill, Sounds like a good buy and a great trip ahead of you as well.

If you happen to catch up with the boys (In the Desert  ) We would have to name your new starship "The Camel" (Ship of the desert)

Not withstanding "PACKING CAMPING GEAR" :?: :?: ............In reality it will be a "Bozo" of a trip eh :?:

Have a safe trip Bill and look forward to seeing "Africa Korp" stickers on the "Camel" Sunday week. 8)

PS: Don't forget to watch the Wallabies Saturday arvo while your riding home mate. (You have Sat Nav TV on your bike don't you?) :P

Very clever...The Champagne colour scheme is really a camel colour and the large hump on the back gives the illusion of a dromedary...but how will it go in sand?

If it's like a camel.
Then it will smell
Will travel along the track/road slowly and not get out of the way.
And then when it's tried it will fall over.

Gents

Please note:

"THE CAMEL" has already been assigned to Robin M's slightly modified (sic) DR650, aka, The Mobile Bowser.

Given that the BMW factory fits one lump, and Bill makes the second, perhaps "Bactrianus" would be a more appropriate nom de guerre!

Alternatively, perhaps "Priscilla", as in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (yes, I know it's not lavender) would be apt?

Anyway Bill, if it helps, talk to Chris G if you need help getting it right side up. I believe he has access to a 320T crane, that should be enough to lift it!

Black top camel probably fits. Picked up bike this morning after arriving Brisy on the red eye. Lis the owners wife picked me up from AP and took me to their house South of Brisy. Left their place with the black camel at 11. Crossed the Great Divide where the temp dropped to 5* and rode for 6 hrs and now warming up at Glen Innis waiting for the rugby to start. Bike seems to run well

Bill

Glen Innes is exactly the place to get a heated room.

One degree temp tomorrow morning with fog and a maximum of nine degrees....drive safe. Glen Innes to Armidale has got some interesting corners.

So many options for the Camel, Taupe, Sand, Champagne coloured K1200LT.

The Tallebudgera Torpedo
Refers to its origin and Taupe colour

Aztec
Refers to the 60's rock group Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs as in Billy's Taupe bike named Aztec

Camel Tar
An alternative name for the Black Camel that will spend most of its time on Tar/Bitumen

The Farkled Camel
To distinguish it from Robin's unfarkled Camel and a reference to it being used on tar/macadam roads. McAdam is also known as McFarkle.

The Thirsty Camel
To distinguish it from Robin's lower capacity Camel

The Kilted Camel
Refers to the Scottish ancestry of the owner and that it is a K1200LT
