Just got around to cleaning out the bees collected from Geraldton to Perth on the way back from the Australian Safari from my 1200GS.

No wonder the temperature gauge was a little higher than the usual 4 bars.

Hey Bully,

How do you clean the bees and bugs out of the oil cooler without damaging it?

My method:

Wet the bugs with water... let the water soak in, then flush with more water from the back.

Usually, as in your example, the fins are also knocked around.

I use the pointy end of an appropriately sized cable tie to first straighten the fins.
Then with a slightly smaller cable tie, push the remaining bugs out from the back to the front.

Then, of course, flush with water again, then gently dry with compressed air blown in from the back.

It's a bit of a tedious task, but you end up with straight fins and a clean air flow over and through them.

Hey Nev,

You bee blasting un-badged badger...you cant tell your Bully's from your Bozo's.

I don't bother straightening the fins as the less movement the fins have the better and the radiator is still very functional.

My process for insect removal is very similar to yours...wet them up with a hose and then insert the hose nozzle from the back of the radiator where you can. Then use a cable tie to dislodge the recalcitrant remainder.

Cleaning up on the road is very basic. At a servo, tip a bit of water over the front of the radiator. Use a hand wipe to run across the surface of the radiator and then tip more water to remove what has been dislodged. The main aim is to remove any build up acting as an insulator in front of the radiator.
