Anyone spoken to Chris ??
You Tube Videos (not mongrel dog productions...)
Some videos on youtube from the snail trail ride. Some members of the club feature heavily and you can relive the horrors of the sand trap in the 3rd video.

Do you mean Chris ???? He is still breathing...i got an email from him today to say that it was not the smartest decision to start the ride (snail trail) after cracking a couple of ribs the weekend before near Cave Hill.bully1 wrote:Anyone spoken to Chris ??

Chris told me before the ride began that he had hurt his shoulder but not how/or what nor about his ribs, he made the right decision to pull out before we went much further.

I guess that saved us picking up another GS. But then I don't think I've every had to help Chris pick his bike up. Helps when you know how to ride one.
Bully did you notice what bikes we had to pick up?
Ahab
Most problems can be solved with a suitable application of throttle!

I reckon I'm going to give it another couple of weeks licking the wounds before I throw a leg over the bike again.
For the record; I went down in the first five minutes and the young bloke shepherded me home. Like I said to Digger; not my smartest decision to start the ride!
Anyone know anything about the KTM650 Enduro R? I'm off to watch two of my boys try and destroy KTM MXer's this weekend at the KTM Dirt Day.

Re: Snail Trails Perth
Yes Chris you made the right decision to pull the pin.
Ben and Peter both have the 690 R and love them, as far as the KTM brand go they are probably the best light all rounder that they make. Only main problem is the fuel pump which has a tendancy to stop with the slightest blockage, using a filtercsock in the filler neck seems to fix the problem.

Thing to be said about gravity feed and a carby

I've heard about the fuel pump issues, seems pretty common. Beats me why KTM don't use a sock and an inline filter from the factory.
I'm really happy with my GS, I knew what I was getting into when I bought it, it's just that I wasn't planning on picking it up so often! 140Kgs wet against 230kgs wet is a BIG incentive. Perhaps it's karma telling me it's time to join the Happy Bike club.
I wonder if she'd notice a new bright orange bike in the shed, maybe I should buy a padlock?

Re: Snail Trails Perth
Hey Chris,
sorry to hear about the ribs. That hurts!, so take it easy and get mended.
Maybe a chair might me the way to go
, sorta help with the staying vertical bit (nearly said perpendicular then). I can just see you now on the Rallye with a matching chariot, tearing down the track with your hair on fire. Wouldn't need to worry about the tankbang capacity being a bit on the small side either
.
We'll get Bully to arrange a test ride down some tracks to see if you like the idea of a three wheeler, AND we need someone to develop a drive system for the tub wheel (now there's a project)
Take it easy mate, and also don't worry about the RTCC, I'm sure the HOG riders have it all under control..
cheers

I spoke to Howard this afternoon and he said that when they pre-rode the route , the majority of the sand patches were very damp and so not much of an issue, the uphill sand section, Brian ( a self confessed nooby ) said that it was fine, obviously with a couple of days of sun and 30 bikes over it, it had loosened up quite a bit .Steve stayed there until I went through helping to pick up bikes, looking at the video it seems that many had problems coming through it, with nearly all the GS's dropping, I didn't see by the video whether Reiner made it through unassisted, he had reverted to outriggers fairly early and I'd told him if he was comfortable to ride like that to keep doing it.
The general feeling coming back ( not forgetting this was the first one run ) that many want to concentrate on certain skills, so a shorter ride may be on the cards with stops at certain obstacles to observe and practice, there were a couple of areas that would be OK to do this, one was a long straight with a few potholes and a big grassy section on the left, at the end of the straight was a right hand turn with a fence on the right and pine forest on the left, this I think would be a great place to set up some obstacles.
We'll wait and see what comes up in a few months.
