I now have the GS911 diagnostic tool, which plugs into the magic big plug under the seat and reads fault codes etc. See link : http://www.hexcode.co.za/products/gs-911/gs911 . The GS911 is applicable to the following machines :
R-Series:
HP2, HP2 Megamoto, R1200GS, R1200GS Adventure, R1200RT, R1200R, R1200ST, R1200S,
R1150GS/Adventure, R1150RT, R1150R, R1150RS (single- and twin-spark on all models)
R1100S (single and twin-spark)
K-Series:
K1200GT, K1200R, K1200R Sport, K1200S, K1200LT (non-CAN), K1200GT (non-CAN), K1200RS (non-CAN)
F-Series:
F650CS, F650GS, F650GS/Dakar (single- and twin-spark on all models)
C-Series:
C1, C1-200
I have the Bluetooth version of the tool so it sends all data to the phone. Really cool feature, but a pain in the A to set up on different phones.
On plugging into my R1150GS Adv., it registered two fault codes relating to Hall sensors not working, because the engine was static. My bike is perfect!!?? I look forward to testing out on any of the above bikes at the tuning day on the 19th, especially R1200GS and F650, perhaps a K1200S or HP2. I have the software on laptop and on my phone.
The GS911 is a good tool to have, perhaps a little expensive for what it is but cheaper than not having one if you can address issues yourself. I recommend the club proceed to get one (I'd like to keep mine now, can't have too may toys, I mean tools). Perhaps we can save on freight if others want their own tool, but check out my demo first on the 19th.
I also got the R1150/R1100 and R1200 maintenance DVDs. I have to say that if I saw that guy working on my bike, I'd remove all tools promptly. However, the gist of the demos is useful. The R1200 DVD is for sale at $30-00 (basically what it cost me) to the first bidder.
