Motorcycle shipping advice wanted

Post by Kitersi »

Hi all,
I’m considering shipping my motorcycle to Europe or UK for an extended holiday around March 2020. Possibly ride back to Perth over 6-12months. I’m looking for advise on the best way to transport my bike. Air or sea, ideas on cost, also best shipping agents. Also if others are considering shipping their bikes then sharing a container. Some say airfreight is better as it’s faster and cost isn’t much different. Any advise welcome.
Cheers Simon

How did you get on? Did you find any helpful info?
We are also exploring the idea of shipping a bike over to the UK next year.

I’ve got a shipping agent who will ship my gs to Southampton UK for $750. I will be booking it to go in the last week of January so that it’s there for us when we arrive on the 24th March. Let me know if you want to ship yours at the same time. I will get them to use their UK agent to have the bike cleared through customs and ready for pick up at another depot. Will be additional cost.
Give me a call if this timing works for you. Be keen to hear what your planning.
Cheers Simon

Thanks Simon we will probably be a couple of months behind you. That's a pretty sharp price, I take it that doesn't involve packing & other associated costs on the other end?

Hi John,
I will just grab a crate from Auto Classic and box it up myself. I think Auto Classic will do it for you for $200-$250.

What are your plans. Will you be riding back or shipping the bike back?

Insurance is a bit tricky. At this stage I’ll get the compulsory green card insurance from a Lobagola. Travel insurance likely from World Nomads because they cover for riding larger bikes. At this stage I don’t know where I can get reasonably priced motorcycle comprehensive insurance from. Please let me know if you find a company. Carnet from AA and the rest is visa’s where applicable.

We were looking at Tourinsure www.tourinsure.de but its not a cheap option.
We are also still considering a rental out of Slovenia, it's more expensive but when you take into account it covers the insurance, maintenance & depreciation on the bike it has its advantages.

We were only looking at around 75 days of riding so it's kinda on the tipping point for a rental or shipping a bike from WA?

Gents , just attended an update on Local and International trade terms in the logistics space presented by the International Chamber of Commerce , INCOTERMS2020  is today’s weapon of choice for vendors and consumers. Maybe download the app or be in touch off-line re this if you need assistance, BEFORE you sign up for something.
