Some ideas

Some ideas to attract a greater number of BM bike owners to becoming members of the BMWMCCWA.

1. Re- establish monthly general meetings where members can inform on various group activities , formally discuss issues and suggestions and democratically activate suggestions. With voting if the general meeting decides a decision can’t be made within the meeting group then we should use membership voting via internet voting put to all members.
2. I have established that we can use function rooms provided by WEST COAST BMW located at Wangara for a variety of activities where we need a area available to hold presentations, sub-group meetings etc. The current hotel setup seems to be ok for our monthly meetings.
3. We will arrange to contact a wider range of businesses that may wish to sponsor club members with discounts, prizes sponsorships etc.
If we can increase club membership it will be more attractive for these businesses to support us as a club.
4. I feel as a motorbike club we should investigate the need and get behind a push for more apprenticeship training for specialist motorcycle mechanics as a profession for young people entering the work force. This would involve us as a club speaking out for what appears to be lacking currently with training facilities for young people interested in taking up specialised motor cycle mechanic roles.
5. Investigate the interest and maybe try finding sponsors to establish a interest for track days for BMW sport bike owners to participate.
6. Establish the need and instigate some regular off-road training for BMW off-road bikes. This may involve paying a suitable instructor to take groups for lessons. The payments may be subsidised partially by the club. As there will be various degrees of skill and competency’s with members, members will progress thru a number of levels as their competency increases. So when off road trips are planned the required level of competency matching the requirements of the trip can make members decide if they will be able and competent enough.
7. As mentioned in my previous postings, I hope to establish various sub groups within the membership of the club structure. Using our committee system to help these subgroups get together socially and functionally, I would suggest they could establish subgroups within the BMWMCCWA. They could informally elect someone within their groups as a spokesperson representing the group to co ordinate their activities, communicate to the greater club membership and liaison with the committee. They can use our monthly general meetings and their ability to come to our committee meetings or general get together if they wish to approach or discuss any club help or requirements. With owning a BMW motorcycle there are a lot of different passions and different needs which differ considerably amongst different owners. These subgroups should provide for these different passions and needs to satisfy different owners thus attracting more owners to benefit ,participate and join our club.
8. As a club we have a huge talent pool of members currently. But currently it is not representing or acting as the voice for all the BMW bike owners in WA. I hope to draw on the help of our current members with mentoring and helping out getting this club moving to attract all the WA BMW bike owners to become members of our club and create a representative of BMW m/C owners.

In order to know which direction a club must go, a person needs to regularly participate in club events, rides and meetings talking with a wide range of people in the club to hear what they want, bring up members wants at monthly meetings in order to better the club, not what you want without consultation of members.
After last year's election you told me you would committ to attend and participate more at club events but we have rarely seen you at at all since the last election.
Actions speak louder than words.

Dave I dispute and disagree with what you are saying that I don’t understand the needs of the club, that I am dictating how I want the club to run and because I haven’t been involved in going on many club rides and haven’t been attending Sunday morning coffee sessions I shouldn’t put my hand up to lead the club with my ideas for increasing the diversity and making it more representative for all BM bike owners.
Just to inform newer members from where I have come from, here is a short history of my involvements.
I have been a member of this club coming up 13 years now. I was on the club committee for 4 years, and acted as the club VICE PRESIDENT for 2 years. During my time on committee I gained much insight as to how the club functioned and I had organised a number of events for members including a number of successfully interesting Xmas functions, First aid training, fundraising for RFDS and Prostrate Cancer research, a number of club rides and did attend regularly just about everything that was going on at the club and was almost a 100 % attendee at committee meetings organised by the President helping him run the club over the years.
I attended the national BMW clubs Australia meetings representing the club on 2 occasions and purchased prizes for the club that were used for raffles and presentations. I spent a lot of my time meeting various businesses and people on club business during my time on the committee which I enjoyed doing for the club which at the time I felt was appreciated.
Following the 2018 AGM I stepped back from the club and started looking at it with a different perspective. This is when I realised the club wasn’t really representing or attracting all BM bike owners as the officially recognised national WEST AUST BMW bike club and was becoming more of a small social club. I might add it was reasonably successful and fulfilled the participating memberships needs but was far short of representing and acting for the many BMW owners that weren’t active or owners that felt the club didn’t have anything to offer them......
This is when I felt I should offer an alternative leadership role along with the members and committee to try and move the club in the direction of building up the club membership to increase the diversity and makeup of the club which to my mind was becoming somewhat repetitive, limited and stale.
I put myself forward to the AGM for the members to decide whether or not they agree the club should become more diverse and representative of more BMW bike owners in addition to what currently the current members have as a club.
