The R18...

Riders, In the past I have put deposits on a couple of BMW motorcycles before their pricing was set and they were first introduced to Australia. One was the HP2 Enduro and the other was the R18 First Edition. Both were the first bikes of their type off the showroom floor at Auto Classic in Perth. I ...

Re: Border Run 2026 - 50th Anniversary gathering...

Howdy Steve, The Border Run is a motorcycle ride - any motorcycle. There would have been many R100’s cover the distance over the years. There will likely be a few on this ride. Just make sure you are self sufficient and have done the basics to keep it going and to repair punctures etc. There are lon...

Re: The BORDER CORNER Ride

Border Corner Riders, It is happening! The ride kicks off on Sunday 9 August 2026 from Mount Augustus Western Australia, site of the 2026 OCR. A logical end point is Tidal River, Wilson’s Promontory, Victoria. This location to acknowledge Border Isle 50km to the south in Bass Strait and Eaglebeak's ...

Re: Border Run 2026 - 50th Anniversary gathering...

Border riders, Late November this year I traversed the road from the WA border to Perth via Hyden. The Friday 31 July 2026 Border Run camp site will be located between start of the 90 Mile Straight and the first vehicle turn-out on the left, on the NORTH side of the road. Assuming you are headed eas...

Re: End of year dinner & Awards

Hello Graeme, Good to read the Dinner and Awards night was a great success. I was out galavanting in the bush at the time so was unable to attend. For the record I lived many years in the USA and Canada before returning to Australia in 1991. In either 1991 or 1992 I purchased a BMW K1200 RS from Mot...

Re: BMW National Motorrad Rally 2026 (25-27 March): Mudgee NSW

Spacey1, Mudgee is an old stomping ground for me. A fantastic place. It is where I was living in 1973(?) when I made made the decision to by a new bike - BMW R90S in smoke grey for $2,100 or a Kawasaki 900 Z1 for $1,850. The movie "Stone" was making the rounds at the time and I ended up wi...

Re: How do you tow a breakdown?

Digger, Yes, that is the safest and most efficient method for a bike-to-bike tow… I carry a length of 4mm diameter Dyneema (or Spectra) rather than tape for this purpose. It packs down to very little and has a variety of other uses on the bike and at camp. Dyneema has no elasticity so you need care ...

Re: Will This 21 Inch Make a Difference?

One of the things that strikes me about Mount Elvire Station is the apparent lack of any notable shearing infrastructure - given it was a sheep station. If you look at other similar stations in the NE Yilgarn they generally had substantial sheds that could accommodate the roving shearing teams. Rid...

Re: Desert Raid 2025 - Shooters Shack: August 9

Riders, I had a call this afternoon from His Griceness who had arrived into Laverton from the 7MM’s Shack. A successful Desert Raid for Digger and his group. Forty-one riders and His Griceness made it to the Shack yesterday. A magnificent turnout to such a remote location. Exploration currently unde...

Re: Desert Raid 2025 - Shooters Shack - August 9

David, Grog was a non-starter. I rode with Josh - one of the riders, accompanying Grog, who made it to Jupiter Well two years ago. Latest update. Josh made it in about 90 kms and had electrical issues with his DR. Just received an update from him on Garmin InReach (great for adventure riders) advisi...

Re: Desert Raid 2025 - Shooters Shack - August 9

Riders, RIDE UPDATE The track out to Lake Rason from the “washing machine” SE of Laverton has beaten me. I got about 30km in and met the first of the really long and deep sand sections. Probably the first one in the video I uploaded. Smooth like a billiard table when I rolled over it in the UNIMOG a...
