Kots (aka Paul Kotsoglo) is holding a photographic exhibition in November.

The exhibition is receiving the support of the Head On Foundation, through its Open Program. This was as a result of an international call for exhibitions.

Paul was fortunate enough to have been selected as one of the exhibitions to be run across Australia. It’s a bit of a big deal in the photography world in Australia.

Fossil Fuel depicts images around the transition of the retailing fossil fuel mainly on the ground in urban and rural parts of Australia.

The work holds a lens to old and outdated facilities once a thriving part of the economy. Today fossil fuel dispensing service stations’ days are coming to an end, although the exact timing is still a way off.

Closer inspection of the old school servo sees the materials used in construction include asbestos and lead based paints. The subterranean tanks and old dispensing units now are well outdated and no longer used. This reflects changes in our society as companies reflect the community’s demands for change and move from old technology and social attitudes.

Community attitudes around the dangers of the use of fossil fuel on the globe through climate change are becoming louder for many people, not all.

The transition of the economy which once saw such facilities thrive, now sees the demise of the old servo.

The project intends to document the change of the built environment which is happening as community attitudes and the foundation of an economy are now in transition in an industry taken for granted over the last half a century.

Come along to 321 Murray Street - off Wolf Lane, Perth between 10:00am - 6:00pm 12 - 29 November, 2026 if you would like to see what its all about.
