I am looking for comments regarding body armour, I planning a trip starting in april for about 2 months riding to the eastern states including through remote areas.
I currently have the BMW jacket and pants which has rubber protection in the back of the jacket as well as shoulders hips elbows etc. I am thinking of going a bit further to try and get more protection and maybe removing these bits of rubber (maybe not) and wearing a "pressure suit" or cockroach top and then the jacket over the top as necessary.
There are all sorts of these things available that look similar (fox, 661, etc) through to the so called better quality Dainese types.
Does anyone have experience in wearing this stuff riding long distances?

I did a trip thru Central Australia and also Neale Junction last year while wearing a turtle suit. I remove the existing 'armour' out of the jacket and wear the body armour instead. It's bulky and uncomfortable but provides more protection than the standard armour in most jackets. I prefer it because of the added protection to your back (although it would not have helped Ben because his was a compression injury) and the additional chest protection. A rider died near Cameron Corner in 2009 (?) as a result of a torn aorta caused by the rear footpeg after coming off his bike.....i am not suggesting body armour would have made the difference but it does provide a bit more protection.
I wear a long sleeved T shirt underneath to prevent chaffing at the elbows and just wear a enduro shirt over the top and the jacket over that. I have seen some riders wear the turtle suit as an outer garment during hot weather and apart from looking like Iron Man, i suppose it would still provide the protection they were looking for.
Although bulky to wear, it is my preference when i consider the benefit of added protection.

Hi Bowe, you can try Total Motorcycle in East Vic Park they have a good dirt bike clothing section.

Look at hard body armor and other modern armour technologies to see how they can stop bullets.
