Going for a ride to Grey tomorrow morning. Meeting with some friends that have a shack up there. Leaving about 7.30 from Scarborough. Anyone interested in coming along is welcome. Mainly tar, some 2-300m of sand track into the settlement. Bring some meat for a BBQ at the shack. Let me know if interested.

No interest from others with this ride so Doris and myself set off this morning by ourselves.
Grey is a squatters settlement 50 Kms north of Lancelin. It is a great tar ride till the Grey turnoff where it becomes a soft , deep sand track. The shack was about a km down a number of these tracks. Being a bit ordinary to ride on , Doris was politely asked to walk some of the way when the GS started to get a bit difficult to get along with in the soft deep sand. We had a great BBQ and caught up with our friends who are rebuilding their shack. Left back for Perth at about 3.30 and again left Doris off the back while negotiating the soft sand which now seemed even softer as the wind and sun dried it out even more. I almost made it out but the GS decided to throw me off with about 100 m to go. This all happened in front of some yobbo types who were quite vocal about my riding skills. I picked up the bike as Doris came back to find out what was happening and to see if I was injured ( very caring) I continued to the firmer ground with no damage done. Apart from that incident, great day and a pity no one else wanted to come along.
I HATE SAND,!

Try this tip Bill.
If you ride it really fast you won't be on it as long as you would be if travelling at a slower speed, so less time on the sand means a very short time span in which to crash in. So all going well you'll be off the sand before you decide to crash.
