Border Run 2015 – Plan B

So, we set our plans for the border. Right until the weather report was released on the Wednesday before hand. So with a lot of investigation, a plan was hatched to change destination and head North. So after the Chinese Fortune Cookie I had for dinner read: “ He who rides with the weather stays wet. He who rides into the weather gets dry “. The plan was now set to go to Monkey Mia.
We got up early only to have a SMS from a fellow rider to tag along. Not knowing this number I asked who it was only to have this lovely Mugshot come in.

Paul was now going to join us as well.
Keith was already up the road with a head start on us. So we headed from home to our first stop Dongara. Yes, We did have some rain. Yes we did get wet, but looking at the weather radar for the guys heading towards the border. Now that cheered us up, because they were getting drowned. Honestly we didn't laugh. We pissed ourselves laughing. This radar was looked at regularly, now knowing we had made the right decision. Life was great.
We set the Taj Mahal up for the first time.

What a great tent enough room for all of us to sleep in.

We found the Border so took some happy snaps.

I didn't start the bullshit about fatigue maintenance, I just pointed the way for all the " safety Daves " to do the appropriate courses before they left for a faarrrkenlongride.

But I am glad that a group,of riders of advancing years managed to get out on their bikes and do some serious miles.

I shuddered when I saw the heading for a " thong shed " coming from a kiwi, knowing what they call a thong, it conjured up all sorts of images.

Sounds like a sensible alternative plan conceived by the old Betsy. This dogmatic must do this, must do that because it is what has to be done is just plain silly. It is good that there is some lateral thinking amongst some of our members who strive to get the best out of their ride leisure time and venture to a sensible agenda where as the weather forecast has dictated pleasant riding. Knowing what lies ahead why would one want to venture into the cold murky drudgery of a East West ride when a sunny warm North South is obviously the way to go.
Maybe in future for the first Sat in Aug the weather forecast should dictate the direction of the border run. The Tropic of Capricorn border certainly means as much as the SA border. It's not the destination but the ride surely

A bit of a challenge for the guys from Queensland, NSW, Victoria and SA to get there. You also get guys attending from Esperance and Kalgoorlie.

No drama in anyone organising a ride at any time to our brilliant north but a big call to can the real Border Run.

Old Betsy, catch me up...

Have you bought a new beemer tourer? R1200RT?

Great ride (and a smart choice too) for you guys. Monkey Mia & Denham are top destinations. I spent a few years in the 60's as a kid growing up in Denham... long before tourists discovered the peninsula. Lucky for you I didn't join this ride... woulda bored you to death with "back in the day" stories.

BTW: check out my new tent. Got it 6 months ago. Apparently they're quite rare. Yet to be used in anger. I need to get out more. :P
