Post by pspencer »

Return to the south. Leaving Ascot Shell 8:00 am to travel to DOME KELMSCOTT for a 9:00ish departure. Expected weather dry, but cloudy. DDD.

I'll be down for a coffee that's all. May be good enough for a longer ride in another week possibly.

Well the coffers of Kelmscott Dome were topped up yesterday with 15 for coffee and some for cakes as well. Noel, Nurzo and Swampy were only there for the fabulous BMW company we all generate. That left Wes, Eddy, Digger, Anthony, Paul, Chris (PD), DFS, Bill, Nick and Robbie to join me and TEC Brian for the ride to our destination of Miami Bakery, Falcon.
The major discussion was with the upcoming Nannup ride attracting approx 35 bikes how we could safely handle that number. All agreed that Corner Marking was the best way. So after discussing and agreeing on some ground rules we decided to trial CM on this ride.
We traced along the railway before taking Utley, Hopeland and the great curvy Corio and Patterson to hit the outskirts of Pinjarra. Crossing SWH up Pinjarra-Williams Rd to Burnside and onto Coolup Rd East to get us onto Fisherman’s, Old Bunbury onto Forrest H for a short squirt before heading west on Lake Clifton.
Along the Estuary was picturesque as usual with what we think were Paulownia trees in flower. A stop at Island Point Reserve had us all discussing if CM was the way to go to keep a large group of riders together. As we still had 12 riders, losing no one, we all agreed it had worked. We had our only minor spit of rain on the way along the estuary and soon we were munching on pies etc at the Bakery.
A few riders left the group here leaving the rest of us to head into Mandurah, take Pinjarra and Lakes to get us onto the tried and proven Hopeland, Kargotich Tonkin run to our homes.
Thank you to all for the input to try CM and succeeding and a special thanks to Brian for TEC duties.
Another successful Thursday ride on a Thursday.

Arguably, Cornerman marking is the safest, most efficient method of getting a group of riders to the ride destination.

Some tweaking of the concept is required as demonstrated yesterday. As riders become familiar with the process it will become seamless. It will avoid having groups of riders exposed to other road users waiting for the tail-end bikes to re-join.
Some people are like Slinkys, you can't help smiling when you push them downstairs.
