Posted: Sat 13 Aug, 2011 2:35 pm
Bimbijy Sheep station ride.
The details for the proposed overnight stay, at Bimbijy in the Shearers quarters are as follows,
Weekend of Sat/Sun 3rd & 4th of September :-
Tent & use of Kitchen & shower facilities = $8.50
Sheds, sleep 2 & some 4.... = $24.00 per person
(total # of sheds is 7)
beds have pillows but NO bedding.
There is plenty of HOT water....provided 'we' keep the heater going.
The Bunk house is a 'riot' ! You'll love it.
Lets see how many 'couples' we can get on this trip.... Hot water, Bunks, Kitchen, pillows !!!!!!!! if the 'other half' won't try out this trip When will they come !
Shooting.
Yes, allowed, But only wild dogs & Kanga's...maybe with the odd John Pollaers thrown in ! (now who's a 'cunny funt'...you coming along mate or what !)
Defo NO cattle, emus, goats or sheep.
100% NO exception, KEEP OFF the runway.
ride along the side only,
if the RFDS is required, he WILL NOT LAND if the strip is cut up.
basic arithmetic suggests a minimum of at least 16 beds, (The caretaker wasn't 100% sure the exact number of beds..LOL) So i think it will be safe to assume there will be a bed for everyone, although I might take my tent 'just in case'
The bunks will be allocated on a 1st to arrive, 1st pick basis.
(including today Sun 14th, it is 4 weekends away, & two W/E before the camp cook-off)
have a look on Map numbers 80/81 in the roads & tracks Western Australia. (Bimbijy is on map 81, A-5)
two approach options from the south, Having been before, I'd say the Bimbijy Rd is the best option for road bikes, (5 kms west of Beacon) the first 30 kms is tarmac, then a further (approx) 60 on a 'good' gravel road..
the 2nd option north along Mouroubra Rd is more dirt orientated from scotsman intersection . At Mouroubra Station turn right towards Bimbijy, but could be a wee bit tricky for some especially if it's been wet.
Fuel.
everyone 'Should' be OK if you fill up in Beacon. Next closest (I think) would be Koorda or Bencubbin, So a 10/11 litre tank on a standard DR 650 might not be enough, especially if you plan to ride north to Paynes Find Sunday morning... but a 5 litre 'jerry' should see you right.
departure. I'd suggest anyone who wants to ride in a group, or groups meet at Gingers Road house which is the GULL petrol station in Upper Swan on the Great Northern Highway, Better menu & toilets than Shell offer close by. (only my opinion)
