The first meeting place is corner Abernethy and SWH right in Byford. There may not, in fact be a servo there, so do as suggested, fill up at the Caltex cnr Nettleton and SWH if you didn't fill up the previous evening.

Swampy, you are a rock star mate. You are the tail end man for the southern group. May the force be with you. I will give you a route sheet as well, so you can herd the hapless lost souls as required.

John
For everyone's info

There is in fact a Servo at the second meeting point on the eastern side of SWH and Abernethey road Byford,However fill up wherever you please.

The Northern riders will have their coffees before they arrive at the meeting point start venue at Hillarys. We won't be classed as latte sipping BMW "prims" time wasting when we could be riding. The Northern group unlike our Southern mates aren't in this for Latte swilling. We are there for the ride and the wind in our faces and sweeping bends and the sound of Bavarian steel slicing thru the country side. So if you want Latte swilling join the other group. There will be ample bonding time at the function

The Northern ride is slowly taking place. Bozo is back from Melbourne and showed great stamina this morning by leading the airheads ride after arriving back in Perth late evening, then finding his bike battery needed recharging and having to charge it up resulting in not getting to bed until 1am equivalent 4am Melbourne time this morning. Although looking like he hadn't slept at all, he arrived at Cats and in typical Bozo style proceeded to do a quick plan of the route and then led about a dozen or so bikes through a thoroughly pleasant 300 Km ride apart from the last stretch along the freeway that had traffic jams as we approached the city . The ride encompassed pleasant scenic countryside around the Southern Perth hills and surrounds with Bozo mothering his flock making sure everyone was enjoying the trip.
We didn't lose anyone and arrived at the Spandille cafe/garage for their opening celebrations with perfect timing.
Bozo and myself during our pie breaks and latte stops have come up with a preliminary route plan which we intend to ride after Cats tomorrow to check timings and practicality so the ride will meet our high expectations. Once we have fine tuned this we will post the planed ride on the forum.
Place your names on the clubs events registrar if you are coming
And remember drink your lattes before you turn up at at 9am at Hillarys

Bozo and myself did a bit of a reco this morning of the route the Northern group hope to take. We headed for the hills at Brigadoon and Bozo led us on the sort of ride that I was hoping for.
I diligently followed Boz thinking gees I'm glad this guy knows where he's going as we turned here and went there and we followed the living road map to the Dome at Mundaring thru a maze of great biking roads that required great skill not to get completely lost.
While sipping on a latte at the Dome cafe at Mundaring and thinking that things are great and everything is sorted with the ride, Boz informed me that he probably won't be in town for the big ride and he won't be available to lead the ride . Hell, now I will have to try and remember where we went I thought to myself so I can lead the masses where we had just travelled.
I am still in shock by this revelation but never fear I will go back over the route over the next few weeks and rediscover and take more notice of this route that if I can recreate it will be the ants pants in club rides for the Northern riders.

I think we have established that the next pick up point after starting at Hillarys will be Gingers petrol station / cafe on the great Northern hwy, then at the roundabout at the top of the hill at Brigadoon, then the Hungary jacks car park at Mundaring on the Great Eastern Hwy, then we will head down the hill via Mundaring dam Rd to get onto the Graham Farmer tunnel to arrive at the venue.
Like I said I will have to fine tune details so standby for a comprehensive route plan with pickup timings at the various pickup points soon.

Apologies to Elton Jono

We packed our bags last night pre-ride
Zero hour ten thirty a.m.
And I'm gonna be high as a kite on caffeine by then
I miss the NT so much I miss my tiny historic bike
It's lonely out in front
With Swampy herding the hapless souls behind

And I think it's gonna be a long long ride
Till touch down at Spadille brings me round again to find
I've left my most reliable bike at home
Oh no thank goodness I have Swampy Man
Swampy Man being Tail End Charlie out back all alone

Ravenswood ain't the kind of place to meet your mates
In fact it's cold as hell
And there's no phone coverage to raise them if you need
And all this focus on service stations I don't understand
That's Swampy's job... It's just my job to lead
Swampy's a rock star helping Rocket Wightman

And I think it's gonna be a long long ride...

Well here it is, the Northern BMW riders 40th ride plan. :P

I spent this afternoon doing my own recon of the route without maestro Bozo and managed to find the route that I took with Boz last Sun without getting too lost.
From Hilary's I transgressed to Ocean Reef Rd, Gnangara Rd, left onto West Swan Rd, right on Great Northern Hwy , left on Rd to Bells rapids and State Equestrian Centre, right before reach Equestratian centre to get on to the Brigadoon hill rd turn left (Campersic Rd) go right thru the roundabout at the top of the hill keep going ,turn first left. This road then turns into incredible roller coaster ups and downs and ends up at a T junction at OBrien Rd. We won't mention the turn right instead of left on OBrien Rd. Anyway we sorted that and progressed towards Toodyay Rd via Glenton Rd, Berry Rd, Reen Rd,getting to Toodyay Rd going up it about 600 m turning right on to Bunning Rd , head towards Stoneville, Mt Helena, crossed Great Northern Hwy at Mundaring, then Mundaring Weir Rd, Bickley Valley Drive, Canning Rd, Welshpool Rd, GFF, Tunnel....venue
Timings : Hillarys to Gingers Roadhouse 3/4 hr so 9.30 for arrival time 10.15... 10 -15min wait time for pickups leave 10.30 for Brigadoon pickup which is 20 mins travel time from Gingers. Pickup time at Brigadoon 10.50-11am at Brigadoon. Leave Brigadoon 0110 sharp which is on the side of the Road near the roundabout. Head off to Mundaring pick up point as the next rendezvous depending on numbers will be the Hungary Jacks car park at the crossover at the GNHwy , arrival time for this is 12.15 with a 10 -15 minute wait time. We will leave here at 12.30 and head off down the Mundaring Weir Rd for the rest of the route, to arrive at the venue at about 1-1.30 .
This ride is fairly technical with the navigation so it is important that riders stay alert and if they see the rider behind not keeping up drop back so they can see you. This stops riders disappearing into the distance and the ride turning into a "cluster "Censored"" with people not knowing which way the ride has gone. The same goes for riders that are riding particularly slow. You are stuffing up the ride so DON'T. Try and keep up and don't drop too far behind. If traffic lights separate riders the lead riders will wait for you to catch up, but on open roads there is no excuse for holding the ride up by not keeping up with the rider in front. We will be very conservative with speeds and the ride is not a race. Indicate when the turns come up so the rider behind knows where you are going. Riders found to be holding up the ride will be left behind if they continue to do this. It's a group ride so you will ride as part of a group and ride with your mates in mind and not irritate others

So that's the Northern ride organised, any questions contact Bill and remember we are not into slurping lattes on this real ride to the 40th

Took 7 riders for the proposed Northern ride this morning. The consensus was that it was a great ride. I again checked timings ,
Hillarys - Gingers R/H........... 3/4 hour
Gingers - Brigadoon..............20 mins
Brigadoon- Mundaring.............1.5 hrs
Mundaring - Venue.................1 hour

Leaving
Hillarys 0930 sharp

Gingers. 1030

Brigadoon 1100

Mundaring 1245

Spandille Garage 1340 approx

We will meet at the pickup points and wait for no longer than 15 mins for arrivals. If you wish to join the group at these pickup points please reply to this thread with who and where , so we can expect you .
If no one does this we will then think no one will be utilising the pickup points and we won't be waiting the 15 mins we have allocated on the ride for each pickup point. So if you intend to use a pickup point during the ride please let us know
Bill
ps: suggest Carry a camelback or similar with water replenishment. It gets hot and thirsty out there and there won't be any latte stops

Koos, Northern Ride, Hillarys...The Grey Mare

Maybe a separate thread for each ride North or South....may get a bit confusing.....just saying.

Bit quiet on the Northern front. I have asked Northern riders to indicate if they will be utilising the mentioned pick-up points on the way that we have indicated. To date no one has indicated they will be joining the ride at these points.
Does this mean all riders will be starting at Hillarys .
If you will be joining the group at one of the alternative pick-up points please indicate on this thread so we are aware of your joining the ride.
remember have your breakfast and coffees before arriving and we are leaving Hillarys 9.30 sharp

Hi All,
As you all are aware John Wightman is leading the Southern run of our 40th celebrations.

John has a route planned out but I am not privvy to that yet.

John is away in South Africa at the moment but will return in time to lead this ride from the Ravenswood Hotel.

I am Johns sweep rider and if for some reason John is not able to be here then I am happy to lead the ride as I know my way around some Southern routes and I am sure there are other experienced riders that would be willing to assist in a pinch.

John noted earlier a SECOND meeting point in Byford for those unable/unwilling to meet at Ravenswood.

I would strongly suggest that the meeting point for Byford be changed from Johns original plan to the CALTEX Service Station on the corner of SWH and Nettleton Road.

As a member recently pointed out, This servo is easy to access, quite large and serve our purpose as a meet point as a better venue for hopefully a large group of riders to meet up.

See you on Saturday Guys and Gals
