Re: Gascoyne Cup Gascoyne Junction Saturday August 22 2015
I,m thinking of tagging along with Cookie and rather than going to the races, heading back after the Kenedy ranges and heading back South to Woollen Station for a day before heading home down the Canarvon Gascoyne rd.
Been there done that with the Gascoyne races and Woollen station looks like an interesting alternative without noisy bogans and drunks.

Ambitious with your destinations I think, but hope all goes well, I will be up there the weekend before, going through to Karajini from Mt Augustus and then on to Millstream and Dampier.

Re: Gascoyne Cup Gascoyne Junction Saturday August 22 2015
So who is going.
I intend leaving Wed black top on my GSA to Mullewa . Either stay overnight at Mullewa or depending on weather may venture up a bit further on the dirt on the Canarvan - Mullewa Rd and bush camp. I intend to check out Woollen Station staying the night there on Thurs night moving over to the Kennedy Ranges . Probably bush camping the Friday night at the Kennedy Ranges. I will probably give the races a miss and spend some time riding in the region checking out the wildflower display with a planed return to Perth for work on the Monday
If I end up with no interest of others wishing to join me with my itinerary I will tag along with Cookie and his crew who are leaving on Thursday.
Those that may wish to join me let me know........

Looks like I'm the only one planning to be at the races - for the day, that is.
If the weather is fine, I'll leave Thursday and bush camp not far from Murchison. Get to the track Fri night and have a few frothies with mates from Carnarvon. If the weather is shitty, I'll leave Friday and camp somewhere after Overlander. Get to the track Sat morn.
On Sunday I'll probably head up to Mt Augustus for a spin thru the Pingandy/Dooley Downs track on my roundabout way to Meeka, Sandstone, Paynes Find and get home by Tues arvo.
Will be riding my AT.

Shane it sounds like you are going up the same way as myself, Cookie etc. the difference is in the return route, your plan sounds good, I recon I could squeeze one more day in
On the way up we thought we might camp at Grenough River or a bit further up the track if we get there early.

Thanks Jono.
I'll keep an eye on the private forum thread for a departure place and time on Thurs 20/8.
If Greenough is too early, if I recall correctly, there's some clear/flat ground beside the track into Errabiddy Bluff a couple of kms north of Murchison. It's well off the main road and looked good for camping.
Would be good if we can join forces on the return leg.

Re: Gascoyne Cup Gascoyne Junction Saturday August 22 2015
Hi Bill,
Unfortunately, I am not going to be able to make the Gascoyne Races again this year, but I am still interested in visiting Woolleen Station before it gets too hot out there.
Would this longer wildflower trip option work for you?
I am planning on tagging along on Cookie's south coast wildflower jaunt and then looking to head north through the wildflower country ending up at Woolleen. I would like to spend a few days there checking out the country and surrounds.
I have not chosen a route yet, but would prefer where possible to bush camp and ride unsealed roads.
cheers
Patrick

Hello fellow adventurers, basic plan remains the same, pending weather updates.
Finer detail to be nutted out tomorrow - anyone interested in catching up for a coffee tomorrow afternoon at 3pm, head over to my place and we will sort out meeting point for Thursday.
If you don't know where I live, give me a call, I will be home packing kit in preparation for the trip.

Re: Gascoyne Cup Gascoyne Junction Saturday August 22 2015
From the dirt ride group meeting today , it looks like the first night will be tentatively be at Wooleen Station. Will check with Station as to camping setup etc and will confirm. Friday night will be camping in the Kennedy ranges. There was talk that there is a possibility of those not interested in the horse race riding on to Mt Augustus from that location. This decision will be determined when we get to the Kennedy ranges.
There is still time for members who might want to join us to come along, even if it's for part of the trip.
Group will be starting Thursday at 0800 Bindoon bakery. 30 min window, heading up Great Northern Hwy to Mullewa
