Motorcycle Written Off
Motorcycle Written Off
Hi everyone,
Just to let you know I survived a rear ender yesterday afternoon on my way home from work.
The same cannot be said for my R1150RT.
I am still thanking my lucky stars. A young woman did not even brake before impact. I was intending to turn right and had commenced indicating at least 200metres before the turn and was down to about 10kph when WHACK! I was cannoned onto the other side of the road into oncoming traffic. Just as well there was a gap in the traffic.
I have some bark off and a few sore spots, but it is sobering when the ambo's rock up and say that you are one of the lucky few.
The unfortunate reality is however, that we as motorcycle riders can do all the right things but we have no control over the other road users and the results can be catastrophic.
Can someone remind me why I ride?
Stay upright and safe.
Patrick

Glad to hear you are OK. I can just imaging how that shakes you up.....
They're trying to kill us!
I try and avoid Right hand turns, especially busy streets, busy times, dark / Low light. If I can I plan to go round the block if required.

All the more reason to give up work....Paddy7 wrote:Hi everyone,

Seriously though, this is another reason why I generally only ride to get to the dirt. Glad to hear you're ok.
Hope her car is a write off too.

Re: Motorcycle Written Off
Pleased your ok Paddy. At least the driver stopped, my son was knocked off his bike last week. Some idiot came out of a side street, went wide hit his back wheel which sent him tumbling, then drove off and left him on the road side. Luckily other people came to his aid.
Few scrapes and bruises and a fractured wrist.
Hope karma catches up with them.

Re: Motorcycle Written Off
Glad to hear your ok Patrick. Did she stop and help. The DH that ran into my LT breaking the left pannier last year when they didn't give way to me at a round-about was just zoned out. I eyeballed them when I approached the roundabout as they approached me from the left and had to take my eyes off them to negotiate the adjacent exit as it involved a slight right then left turn into a fairly steep incline. Then whack this DH just kept going collecting my left panier just behind my left leg which if I hadn't accelerated at the last second before impact would have been crushed. The bike shifted sideways with the impact but luckily I managed to hang on and kept the bike upright. Being on the 280kg LT one just can't pull up on a incline and park it as this street was . It required a area that I could pull up in and by the time I could safely pull up the driver had disappeared when I looked in my mirrors. This cost me $600 to fix he panier. $250 for a panier off e-bay and $350 to paint it.
Koos your right they are trying to kill us and they give drivers licences to psychopaths.

Glad you are ok Patrick, another club member did not fair as well last week and the offending driver did not stop. I hope such drive offs are not an increasing trend.
To answer your question we ride because it beats the hell out of driving, but your not alone in thinking that many car drivers seem not to see us and not to care.

Sounds like a close call for sure Paddy - good news you survived it. Maybe buy a lotto ticket.
